    Say that i started with 2 to the 4th power.

    and i did as follows
    4, 16, 256, 65536

    so as you can tell i multiplied 2 by 2 then i got 4 then multiplied 4 by 4 and got 16 then did that by 16 and got 256 and did that by 256 and got 65536 (when i was in the second grade that was at first how i thought powers worked now i must wonder if that actually has a name?)

    This is called an interation. It's an operation that's carried out on functions. Such so-called iterations are sometimes graphed in the complex plane, and the result are fractals. You'll learn about fractals when you study introductory chaos math.
