    I think you are referring to a concept from physics and engineering rather than mathematics.

    A maximum angle of repose is the maximum angle that a pile of granular material can attain before friction is overcome, material moves downhill, and a smaller angle is developed.

    You might also be referring to the maximum angle that an inclined plane can assume before an object on it begins to slide. This is dependent on the coefficient of friction and is determined by the equation where is the angle of the plane with respect to the horizontal and is the coefficient of static friction.
