So i noticed that there is no nobel prize for mathematics.
I know you guys have the fields medal which is a huge deal.

But i see mathematics as the purest science there is, i myself am not a mathematician but i can appreciate it's beauty and it's applications to physics and chemistry and each of these have there own category.

So whats the deal with this, why no maths nobel?

    everything is mathematical.

There have been anecdotal stories about the lack of a Nobel prize for many years. One, as far as I know untrue, was that a mathematician was having an affair with Nobel's wife.

I think the real story is that Nobel originally conceived of the prize as being applied to a concrete discovery, supported by experiment if not awarded for actuallly conducting an experiment. He was not apparently supportive of pure theory. I think that is also why you don't see Nobel prizes being awarded to theoretical cosmologists or string theorists. But there is no loss to those who understand the situation, IMO a Fields Medal is worth several Nobel Prizes. The only drawback to the Fields Medal is that recipients generally must be under the age of 40. The Abel Prize is more recent, ought to be regarded as equally prestigious, and is awarded without an age criteria, generally for a larger body of work.

Since Nobel never married this "story" is obviously not true.
Everything the laws of the universe do not prohibit must finally happen.
