    I seem to be bad at some pretty basic things, despite the fact that I'm in Calc. III, am teaching myself differential equations, and am doing well with manifolds. I'm just missing something here...

    I need in form. I know it's basic algebra but I can't figure out how they come up with the signs they have in the end.

    I know it's correct, I'm just not able to get to it. When I try to work it out I can't get everything to have the same signs it has.

    EDIT:

    ok...so I'm guessing that since we know that the portion equals , we can treat it as a separate entity and multiple it alone by ?
