    Could anybody please tell me if there's a simple way to derivate the function
    V=(pi)*2*sqrt(R<sup>2</sup>*r<sup>4</sup>-r<sup>6</sup>) i.e. dV/dr

    Please use TeX and format your equation properly. Do you mean ?

    Take a look at the Sticky at top of the Mathematics section. What are Stickies for if people dont bother to see them? Are some people blind or what?

    Anyway, use the chain rule. Let . Then
