hi guys,
I'm looking for cool chemistry experiments, which can be done in a homelaboratory. Im working on a list of how to do's, explainations where to buy, guides and good experiments.
It all started out when I found the copy of 'the golden book of chemistry experiments' on the forum. A kids book, yes, - you won't believe it if you have read it. It shows you how to make lots of basic chemicals, elements and the basic home laboratory equipment.
Now I have already quite a collection:
Briggs-Rauscher Oscillating Color Change Reaction, N2O, SF6, apparate, and other things
help me find other chemical reactions&experiments, which I can include in my list.
thank you in advance

Thermite reaction remains one of my favourites, but at 3000 degrees C it ain't cool, and certainly not something to do in the home!
Similarly for yellow phosphorus dissolved in carbon disulphide and poured onto sodium chlorate. I'm surprised I still have all my fingers after trying that one in my pyromaniacal teens! Unless you really want to go to hospital I recommend against it.
For lesser bangs, ammonia & iodine ("nitrogen iodide") is a traditional favourite of pranksters.
Iodine clock is quiet, fun and safe, if a little tricky. |
