I was wondering if you needed a medical degree to get a job in the field of biochemistry; are there only certain parts of biochem that require a medical degree?

Hello Alice, the short answer to your question is no, you do do not need a medical degree to work in the field of biochemistry. However this being said biochemistry is a diverse field with many opportunities and different types of positions available, with many of the best ones, especially the senior research postions, requiring a degree, again though not necessarily a medical degree.

If for example you wanted to become a clinical biochemist and work within the NHS, then to gain entry onto the STP (scientist training programme) you will need to have obtained 2.1 or higher BSc in a related field.
