I really do not know how to use this Science Forum but am attempting the trial and error method. My name is Sandy and I am working on my teaching certification in Biology. I am having a ton of trouble in the course of Genetics. If there is anyone out there that can and is willing to help, it would be very much appreciated.

    Thanks,

    Sandy

Welcome to The Science Forum aq2652. There are Members on this Science Forum that may be able to answer your Questions on Genetics in Biology. You probably will have to place a Thread in the Biology Forum to get the ball rolling. Just go to the main index of Forums and click on Biology. Click ""new thread"" box, and just below start writing,. When finished hit the long box below in your writing box. welcome once again. westwind.

There are several members who could likely be of help. What specific questions do you have?

Yep, many of us could answer genetics questions, as long as it's not an ethical, or how do you feel about, kind of question, we are mostly singleminded..
Growing up, i marveled at star-trek's science, and ignored the perfect society. Now, i try to ignore their science, and marvel at the society.

Imagine, being able to create matter out of thin air, and not coming up with using drones for boarding hostile ships. Or using drones to defend your own ship. Heck, using drones to block energy attacks, counterattack or for surveillance. Unless, of course, they are nano-machines in your blood, which is a billion times more complex..

How would I figure out the following 3 point mapping problem?

Assume that investigators crossed a strain of flies carrying the dominant eye mutation "Lobe" on the 2nd chromosome to a strain homozygos fr the 2nd chromosome mutation "smooth abdomen" and "straw body". the F1 "Lobe" females were then backcrossed to homozygous "smooth abdomen, straw body" males and the following phenotypes were observed: (Note - be careful what you label as a double cross-over).
    smooth abdomen, straw body 820
    Lobe 780
    smooth abdomen, Lobe 42
    straw body 58
    smooth abdomen 148
    Lobe, straw body 152

a.) Give the gene sequence and map units between these three loci.
b.) What is the coefficient of coincidence?
    c.) What is the interference?
