    Whew.

I'm a refugee from the meltdowns of IIDB and RDF.

I mainly post at Talk Rational, although very occasionally at RatSkep, TheoWeb, and Panda's Thumb's After the Bar Closes. I've mainly been known as, er, myself at all those prior joints, but was occasionally Lenny's Pizza Guy, Pizza Girl, and Nurse Bettinka at PT...

I have a degree in anthropology (subspecialty: nonhuman primate culture). My ex-wife took her Ph.D. in anthro and studied First Peoples of the Pacific Northwest in B.C., Canada, so I have a longstanding interest in Pacific Northwest art and culture.

I climb and ski in the mountains, kayak, backpack, and suchlike (I also instruct mountaineering for a volunteer environment/activity group here in the Northwest). I have fenced, run track and crosscountry, ridden jumping horses. I bang away at guitar. I draw and paint and carve. I read way too much, watch football on TV, listen to baseball on the radio, and try to avoid becoming addicted to the internet.

I'm a semi-retired lawyer, though I still help out occasionally at my old firm (we defended ordinary people who were sued; we did not initiate the suits) and conduct arbitrations in civil cases for the state and county courts (and occasionally do other volunteer and pro bono work). I have a one-year old granddaughter, a two-year old grand-nephew and three grown sons (one working in admin at the Univ. of Washington, one doing editing work in Brooklyn -- while also delivering fresh-baked bread via bicycle as his "day" job, and one clerking for a federal judge in the Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals, based in NOLA).

In other words, I'm a pretty ordinary father and grandfather, though I like to think I stay pretty active for my age. Sticking my pointy li'l pinheaded noggin into a variety of scientific interests is another way of trying to stay engaged: I'm particularly interested in art, culture, geology, evolution, good movies, and riveting books.

Hi there and hook me up!

    Nice Intro, welcome!

I thought I had introduced myself, but apparently never did.

I'll get to that this afternoon after my morning hot air balloon ride!

Welcome indeed Stevie! Already your good humour has been apparent. Looking forward to your active participation. Good to have you here!

Well, I don't know about "good" humor.

But I figure if I just keep trying, I'll eventually get it right at least some of the time, more or less by chance.

Should I be occasionally reinforced (even if only by chance) on those occasions, who knows what hopeful monster of humor might emerge...!
