As we know that, highly covered vegetation is one of the major problem. This is not without precedent as geologists have used aerial photos for this very purpose for decades. What sort of sensing technique are you thinking of? I would be tempted to start with visible light and develop a program to identify key features of lithology such as mineral resistance and its relation to relief.
