The Catholic Church and the implication of The Inqisition during the Threaded Centuries as it manifested itself as a Terrorist Organisation throughout Europe and Africa and the Near East. And the New World immediately after Columbus. No, they didnot take out Embassies or blow up Twin Towers or make RIED'S, but the Torture Chambers and the Burning at the Stake emptied our Forests. westwind.

Dear sculptor. Yes, harsh. I got carried away. Not a whole forest, that is silly. Just a couple of hundred trees. Nobody will miss them. The trees, I mean. Europe can be very cold, so maybe the burning of a few Protestants at the Stake wasn't so bad, after all. There is more road kill then that on a daily basis now. Pays to get things in perspective. It rationalises thought. One hesitates before one puts finger on the firing button.
We've survived a few attempts at Faith conversion. Perhaps the current situation with Islam has nothing to do with Conversion. They will be hard to convert. The Catholic Church(Papal Rome) included Muslims in their Conversion Programme. H;mmm. Not many trees in the Near and Middle East.
So I think we can safely disburse with the idea that Terrorism today is not about Conversion.
    It's about Hate.
The Historical Conversions were about consolidating Power and Property and command of Resources. And getting rid of potential opposition.
Today we are contending with a disorganised organised frustrated in History and frustrated by the prospects in their future to come , Nationals intent on disruption and staying under the spotlight long enough to bring about a change, or changes, in the World scheme of things. They want to be loved and stroked, so They can purr like a pussy cat. And be somebody. They are maybe been seen as Cellar Dwellers.
Not just a few misguided lost Souls.
No. If you continue seeing only that then you are already blind.
There are Powerful Middle Eastern Nations with deep purses and higher Expectations for Future say in what is really going to happen in our Future World.
Make the Inquisition look like a blip in History. westwind.

showing the instruments was often the most effective part of the torture. (it sure would have worked for me)

witch hunts seem to have been motivated as a means of gaining influence through creating something to be afraid of, then solving the problem for the deluded, and thereby gaining power and recognition.

the more things change, the more they stay the same?
