    When did it take place? I've read anywhere between 3500 and 4000 years ago but it seems to have been a prolonged event. Did the Bantu influence/language spread due to political influence? I've read there is noevidence of extensive warfare...

    Because there is no written history, the details are lacking. The main evidence is from archeology plus the current range of Bantu languages.

    It is a very interesting subject. This is not a single migration but rather some movements of people spread on time.
    Bantu were having agriculture and the iron. So versus pygmies or khoisan hunting-foraging people, it was pretty easy.
