    Hello guys,

    here`s the deal...
I`ve been smoking nargila already for some time now cos I really enjoy the practice xD
but one question has been bugging me from the very beginning... which is worse, hookah or cigarettes?
ive been told that hookah is worse because you end up smoking much more smoke then cigarettes and that water+smoke makes quite a combination which makes the smoke stick to your lungs with greater success or something...

aww and also i`d like to know what can i do to make my nargila smoking more "healthy"??

    thanks in advance,
    tony xD

Depends on what exactly you are putting in it to inhale!

Tobacco? Hashish? Opium? Or other substances???

Then i suggest you stop smoking altogether!

It's probable that the smoke cools down from the water and through the pipes and therefore you can take more into your lungs.

I don't know about whether it makes it stick to your lungs more.

Perhaps you should just stop and then you will know for sure tar isn't sticking to your lungs?

    I recently stopped smoking.

Its not as difficult as you might think

I don't know what you can do to make smoking "more healthy", besides keeping physically active and especially giving your lungs a good workout.

Considering how long humans lived in cramped little dwellings heated and lit by poorly vented fire, I find it funny that people talk of second hand smoke at a bus stop as life-threatening.

    Nay, nay!
    You must of misunderstood me.
I`m not addicted to smoking, and can "quit" at any momment.
I have a question for you guys... did you ever smoke a nargila with some kwel lets say peach/mint tobacco with a pro made "head" (i dunno how its called in english but the tobacco part is called a head in hebrew, 'rosh')
I mean, it just too damn relaxing.
If I dont smoke a long time me hookah I start to miss it, thats all.

Btw, once a week/2weeks aint that bad, right?

From my expertise at nargilas I come up with the folowing health enchancing things that you can do while smoking nargila:
Use a citrus tree or a lemon tree charcoal, it is a pain in the ass to get lighted but much more gr8ter taste, cleanness and healthy xD
    Use high quality tobacco.
Clean your nargila at least once/3-5 uses.
    Dont smoke alot?

...well, thats all the very few things that i have so far...
    anyone maybe can add?

Drugs, any drugs are bad for you. But you just can't stop them I understand that.

    Here's my advice to you:

Cut out 1 dosage every fortnight. You'll cut the habit eventually.

    Hear me! hear meee!!!
I'm not addicted, hell I guess I didnt smoke about 1 months now cos
training to army, and aint feeling any "urgy" to smoke nargilla...

It's like playing a game, if you really like that game then as the time
passes you'll start to miss that game - it's not an addiction my mates!
and even though you know that this game will hurt ya, you are willing
to sacrifice a bit from your health to have fun.
After all... life without fun is no life, right?

Besides, just walking outside for a few dozen of minutes/day in a big city you inhale
    toxins of about 5(+/-) cigarretes worth if im not wrong.. so health-wize;
it doesnt hurt ya so much if you are not a regular smoker... :?

But as I said: just by going outside for a walk is like smoking a few cigarettes?
So smoking a few cigarettes and staying at yar house should have the
    same effect, no?

I don't need a science experiment to aid me in any way because it is as simple as this:

    Cigarettes = Pollution intake.

    Pollution intake = Cigarettes.

Pollution intake + Cigarettes = Worse health than either of the above.

    Yarr, but:

Cigarettes - Pollution intake(staying at home) = fun at home

Our historic use of wood, coal, and dung burning fireplaces - in our homes, for thousands of years - does snicker at today's pollutant sensitivity.

    from the above link

"During a hookah smoking session, smokers may inhale 100 to 200 times more smoke than they do smoking a cigarette. That's because while smoking a cigarette takes approximately five minutes, hookah smoking sessions take anywhere from 40 to 90 minutes.

"Preliminary research on the patterns of smoking, the chemistry of the smoke that is inhaled, and the health effects supports the idea that waterpipe smoking is associated with many of the same risks as cigarette smoking, and may in fact involve some unique risks," states a 2005 report by the World Health Organization.

The report, which was published in English and in Arabic, said hookah use was spreading from the Middle East to teens and college students in the West and called it "an emerging health threat."

I smoked this stuff, my ex was an Arab, can't say I found an 'desireable effects', I think it's all in the smokers mind except for the fact inhaling and exhaling fresh air slowly will induce a relaxed state.

Humm... 100-200 times more smoke than cigarettes/session is kinda alarming..
Am I better smoking cigarretes then??

But then again; the reviewer is against drinking alcohol and thinks that smoking is
illegal, so I have much reason to question her loyalty to the truth...

    Hi,
I have an answer for your question. I am also enjoying the smoking nargila. Some hookahs are pretty good.Recently i seen one blog proving many no of flavors of hookah. I think this will help to select a good hookah without harmness.

Smoking in general is linked with Emphysema. The gist of it is that you inhibit a 'guard' of your lungs aka alpha1-AT. Inhibiting this allows your neutrophils to secrete elastase which degrades your lungs. Since smoking hookah is mostly a middle east phenomena, I'm not sure of the statistics with those who smoke hookah and those who obtain emphysema.

It's your body, do as you will with it, but just be aware to take everything in moderation.

Hi i am john, I have an idea about this. I think compare to cigarette hookah is best. In hookah more no of flavors are there. Herbal hookah it doesn't harm to health compare to cigarette.

Hi john. Your username say's you're "kevinmervin" -which, if anyone wants to sign you up for spam, I suppose they would just need to put "@gmail.com" at the end. Its a good thing you didn't include "kevinmervin@gmail.com" in your message, because spammers pick this sort of thing up and flood your inbox.

Oh, wait, you're a spammer yourself, so you might be aware of this practice.

At any rate, I've terminated your account and hung your username by its entrails at The Science Forum gate.
