How dislocation of lens leads to improvement of eyesight in cataract? I read that when the lens is moved to vitreous it helps the vision, but why?

The lens only does a small part of bending the light, the cornea does most of it.

So, if the lens is obscured or cloudy, removing it from the optical path will allow all the previously blocked light onto the retina, restoring vision, but glasses will be needed for the fine focus.

I have no technical knowledge of this, but I do have the early stages of a cataract in one eye. To my surprise, the eye with the cataract has developed improved short distance vision - I can read very small print ( I don't use spectacles). The downside is that the same eye has double vision - distant objects are accompanied by faint images displaced to one side of the main image and there is less contrast.
