Hey I am relative newcomer when it comes to the forum, but I wanted to ask you a quick question about a specific issue that I have. When I sleep, I have been told that I do not start snoring until much later during my sleep cycles. Apparently, I become louder and louder around 4 to 5 AM. My girlfriend says that this is when my snoring would drown out the sound of thunder.

I was wondering if snoring later in the sleep cycle could have something to do with the fact that my nasal cavities or my throat is dehydrated? Before invest in an actual humidifier I would like to make sure that I am actually in the right direction here. Thank you for any and all advice.

If you are fat, you need to lose weight. Fat people snore a lot.

(But there is a thread here where the OP states that it is OK to be fat. )

I'd also be conscious of the fact that 4 to 5 am is a time when everything around you is much quieter. Part of the issue could be that there's much less background/ white noise at that time to offset snoring, or any other noise, so it's much louder by comparison.

One thing you can do to check on this before buying a humidifier is simply to place a wide(ish) bowl or deep plate filled with water in your bedroom and see how much of the water evaporates within a day or two. Or you could try one of those plain saline nasal sprays last thing at night before bed and see if it makes any difference.

One last thing. No alcohol. None at all. It can make a big difference to snoring.

    A couple things to consider.
Sleep tends to get lighter as the night goes on so your girl might be sensitive enough to wake to snoring you've actually been doing much of the night.

In addition our sensitivity to sound actually goes up as the night progresses.

You should also ask yourself if you are having other symptoms in addition to snoring that might suggest another problem such as sleep apnea--they might include morning headaches, not feeling completely rested even after a long sleep, listlessness during the day often accompanied by a need to nap, generally dull alertness.

If so, see a doctor who might suggest a sleep study to rule out other problems.

First of all, you should answer these questions:
1- When did you start to snore?
2- Did you consult a doctor?

If there is no need for medical intervention, then follow theses remedies which may help you:
1- Don't drink alcohol at all especially before going to bed.
2- Loose weight if you're overweight.
3- Try a different sleeping position.
