Honestly just read the paper I posted (which would be a quite low dose per Seattle standards). If you are badly dehydrated it will help, but it never will bring you to full hydration which is much preferred to reduce susceptibility to becoming further dehydrated as activity or exposure to dry air; being fully hydrated also helps avoid long term problems such as likelihood of developing kidney stones.

Ah ha! A quick perusal of of google hits suggests humidity plays a significant role. But there's also confusion because most (North American) writers lump "hot and humid" as inseparable. Meanwhile Lynx you've got pouring rain and chill same as I, and will have 'till April at least. So perhaps the typical hydration requirements of Wet Coasters is significantly lower than national averages? That would explain our coffee.

The humidity of the environment certainly has an impact on how much water horses drink, so I would think it also would affect the amount of hydration required by humans.

Recipe: French press. Generous volume of uneven grind. Pour boiling water from height, for turbulence and entrained air. Immediately press the filter down, so the standing column of swirling grounds silt it up and seem to lock the filter from moving farther. Put your shoulder into it, it should take less than half a minute of constant pressure to bottom the filter. Result: murky opaque coffee with foam on top. Enjoy with cream.

Two cups a day are not a real health problem, even if the coffee is strong. I assume you drink enough other stuff to hydrate you?

I am a bit different. I developed the habit years ago of drinking cups all day. So I trained my taste buds to enjoy weak coffee. I drink no more than babe's two cups of strong coffee, as coffee, but it is spread over, and diluted by, the equivalent of many cups of water.

about 50 or so ounces of water, sometimes a smoothie for breakfast...and a glass of juice or V-8. In the tropics....you'd better stay hydrated! Almost lost my niece because she got dehydrated at her father's wedding. She went backward over a cliff (she fainted) and the video guy was savvy enough to recognize that she was not looking ok....and caught her by her ankle.

    Hydrate.
    Hydrate.
    Hydrate.
