Is it possible? Nanoparticles can cross the blood brain barrier. We basically have no information about how nano quantities of materials will interact with our brain. We DO know that silver causes cells to rupture. Is our only answer to mend the damage by regrowing new brain cells? How do we get something so small out of all the nooks and crannies of our head? We may not have the technology to do so yet, but we might as well start talking about it now.

I am sorry, I thought it was a different enough topic. The proliferation of nanotechnology and a thread about nanotechnology in the brain are different enough topics. The enviornmental and the health effects of nanotechnology pollution each are broad enough topics to deserve their own thread. If I am wrong about that, I am really sorry. I am an idiot.

A great article, very informative, answering many of my most worrisome questions. Namely, what would be the prolonged effects of severe nano-pollution on our populace?
They do state that the particles do not seem to pass through the placental barrier, which means there is the possibility of humanity growing past a large scale contamination of our environment, as we are seeing with farmers literally throwing nanoparticles onto the ground, and therefore directly into the water supply, using them as pesticides. Yep, sounds too horrible to be true, but it has been happening for years now, and will likely not be stopped until we are seeing the detrimental effects on a large enough scale to warrant doing something about it. NOTE: Nanoparticle pesticides are considered organic in the U.S.A. The F.D.A. literally had the issue on the docket years ago to consider nano tech inorganic, but the issue was shelved. Indefinitely. So is the only answer to simply accept we are going to have particulate silver in our bodies and have to adapt accordingly? I guess so.

A man in the throws of Argyria, or silver poisoning, any sci-fi references are unnecessary.

Silver nanoparticles are commonplace in pesticides, and have been for years. They are even considered organic in the U.S. and certain other countries. The studies that say that silver nanoparticles are safe for consumption only tested for silver's effect on the human body at the normal level. we do not know the long term effects of silver in the human body at the nano scale, including what happens when these silver nanoparticle pesticides work their way into the drinking water, which is inevitable as we are literally throwing them on the ground; when we should be treating them like nuclear waste.

Based on what evidence? Can we except you now to post peer-review science articles? I certainly hope so.

With respect this sounds like paranoia. As Lynx Fox has suggested can you post some serious research articles on this subject?
