I am writting a paper on Diabetes. I am focusing on type 2 so all my question will be about type 2 Diabetes. I already know quite a bit about it, so I will tell you what I want.

I am looking for the genes involved in Diabetes (is there one or more) and I am looking for studies on linking it to weight (excersize and nutrition). I have been told by a teacher that the larger fat cells respond less to insulin while the smaller ones respond better. Are there any experiments to show this that I could site.

Also, I have a theory that Diabetes is a defence mechanism to excess fat. What do you think about this. Obviously it is not an entirely safe defence mechanism and it puts you nervous system in much danger. Would there be worse conciquences if this 'insulin blocking' mechanism did not happen.

I should have you know that I am not writting this paper for school or work of some sort (just incase your interested). More for my mother who has recently been diagnosed with Diabetes. I take many of what common doctors would call risks to my health (Ex. I have probably brocken a bone or two without seeing a doctor). Since this is not for me I want to be very thorough.

I will not quote anything you say here, unless you want me to. I am mainly hoping you can give me some good websites or knowledge that you might know (some of you are doctors), specificaly about studies done.

Or, if you want, go ahead and explain it all. I am jsut afraid I won't have time to read too much if you give me too much, so I would prefer more direct answers.

Any and all information will be helpful. Thanks.
