what is the antibacterial/antimicrobial mechanism of povidone iodine? it is the active ingredient in betadine, betadine contains 10% povidone iodine, delivering an effective 1% iodine...i just dont know how it works, i have read that oxidized iodine is acidic, does that play a role? please help me understand

molecular toxicity of iodine for microbiological agents. Before betadine we used alcoolic solution of iode.

never mix iode and mercure, it cause severe chimic burns. So no mercurochrome after using betadine on wounds.
