Thread: betadine as an antimicrobial

what is the antibacterial/antimicrobial mechanism of povidone iodine? it is the active ingredient in betadine, betadine contains 10% povidone iodine, delivering an effective 1% iodine...i just dont know how it works, i have read that oxidized iodine is acidic, does that play a role? please help me understand

never mix iode and mercure, it cause severe chimic burns. So no mercurochrome after using betadine on wounds.
