Hey all, new to the forum, I'm Craig and im from Wales in the UK

I'm not thinking about drastically losing weight, as I am happy with the weight I am at, but I was just wondering, what are the dangers of loosing vasts amount of weight in a very small time scale? I heard that those who are receiving chemotherapy can sometimes loose up to 8 stone in a month, does this result in any long term effects? I once lost 6 stone in 1 month, (i'm really not kidding) but I felt and still feel fine...

    Thanks

Drastic weight loss can, indeed, have serious effects. This is especially true for those who are morbidly obese.

I am aware of one case history of a guy who died of DDT poisoning after rapid weight loss. He had not been anywhere near DDT for many years, and had absorbed the DDT more than a decade before as a very obese agricultural spraying contractor. DDT is fat soluble and ends up stored in fatty tissue where it does little or no harm. The rapid weight loss, though, released all that toxin into the blood.

Normally, though, the harm associated with rapid weight loss is a result of whatever causes the weight loss. Some illness can cause rapid weight loss, but it is the illness, more than the weight loss, that has the nasty side effects. Likewise certain drugs.

For those who are overweight and want to lose weight, over-drastic measures are not recommended. Apart from anything else, this throws the body into rapid calorie conserving adaptation (the "famine response") and thus a rapid weight gaining rebound, which may leave you heavier than before.

Interesting. I've heard anecdotally that people who are fasting, stink.

The fast weight loss is harmful for the health.
For the fast weight loss people use the diet pills or the supplements that are steroids based.
All these diet pills and steroids have direct bad effects on the health and cause various health complications.

Breaking down fat for energy can cause your body to produce acetone, which can cause the breath to smell.
