A few months ago, I notives this report on a Dutch newssite nu.nl | Het laatste nieuws het eerst op nu.nl

The short story that it is about activating a human hormone that burns fat without any exercise. Many scientists believe this will be an enormoud break through.

Please note, the hormone described only influences the burning of fat inside the human body. It does not maintain, enhance, or train the muscles or any other organs.
    Exercising would still be neccessary!

The following text is completely translated from Dutch to english by a translater on google. I didn't alter anything myself. IRISINE is the Dutch name for the hormone.

Sport is healthy. I know almost everyone. But there is something strange going on, if you exercise regularly, you not only use the energy that your muscles burn in that effort, but it changes your energy outside to exercise. Athletes have therefore include less risk of heart disease, type 2 diabetes and obesity (morbid obesity).

U.S. scientists have now discovered a possible cause of this phenomenon. Pontus Boström of Harvard Medical School and his colleagues did research on mice that were less affected by a mutation of obesity and diabetes than normal mice. They knew that it was a mutation in a gene called PGC1-α, and that this gene is activated in muscle by exercise. What they did not know is what the gene does. Eventually they discovered that the gene responsible for the production of a hitherto unknown hormone that they irisine (in English: irisin) baptized.

    Brown fat
Of course the medical researchers were not here. They also figured out what the function of that irisine. It appears to play a role for converting white grease in the brown fat. White fat is the most common form of fat, most of the vetverzamelingen in your body consist of this type, and it's also the kind of fat in thick edges of the meat on your plate sits. Brown fat is most common in babies. It was thought that adults did not have, but not long ago showed that many people still have leftover brown fat, especially in their neck and their chest.

The main difference with white grease, which is brown fat consume more power. In other words, the more brown fat in your body you have, the better. You burn it, if you eat the same and as many moves as someone with little brown fat, yet more calories. Making it easier to stay slim and you have less burden of disease associated with (morbid) obesity.

Boström not limited his study to mice. After the hormone in the blood of mice were found, they looked back even if they could find in the blood of humans. And yes. Moreover, the amount of the hormone in both humans and mice, to grow after a few weeks subject to a strict fitness regime.

    Inject
And the researchers went a step further. They were also curious whether the hormone the fat ratio of mice would improve if you just so when they are injected, without the animals were put to the sport. So they took two groups of mice, they are both on a diet high in fatty foods set. One group received only the irisine injected, and the other group is not.Over time the irisine mice were healthier: they were less often overweight and type 2 diabetes.

The big question now is whether the administration of irisine same effect in humans. If so, then that is good news for people who actually would be good to move more, but who do not. They would then be a 'sportpil' with irisine be to swallow, that some of the benefits exercise offers, without being there physically for anything having to do. But, as often: until they are certain that this can, there is first more research is needed.

The end. This is two months old, and there hasn't been any new info about it since.

Really, I can only find things that help preventing loss of hair. But that snake oil, wears the name snake oil. It doesn't have anything to do with snakes.

    Same thing?

He was jokingly doubting the truth of these claims.

By the way, one word that wasn't translated, "vetverzamelingen", means "fat accumulation", in case anyone was wondering...
