Acute imuno deficiency syndrom. Is it realy only that? I think that AIDS is the only illnes that (eventualy) kills 100% patients. So, does it do something else than exterminating blood cels? Would patient die if he lived under the buble, in completely sterile enviroment?

There are a few errors and omissions in your post:

The correct name for the disease is Acquired Immunodeficiency Syndrome.

It does not kill 100% of those who contract HIV. A genetically based resistance to the disease has been identified; not all who contract HIV develop full AIDs; antiretorviral drugs can control the progress of the disease.

It does not exterminate blood cells - it kills CD4+T cells, which are a type of white blood cell, critical to the functioning of the immune system.

Even in the absence of external infection, with the patient encapsulated as you suggest, I understand they would still succumb to other infections latent in their system, or to cancer.

I also know that it does not kill 100% of it's patients. The only thing that kills the people are the other problems that their immune system cannot handle. I am not an expert on AIDS so this is just my opinion. A strange thing about AIDS. A person who doesn't know they have it is amazingly more healthy than a person who does know. This is because of the idea of AIDS. People think it is deadly when the most deadly part about it is the state of mind it puts the person in. So (in my opinion) if these people would learn to not fear and practice a healthy life they will be just fine, eventualy.

    YES I am CRAZY!!
One day I hope to prove my crazyness to the world. Untill then feel free to ignore me.

You're discounting the fact that most people who don't know that they have it simply haven't developed health problems associated with a decreased immune system.

And it is also a very accepted fact that cognitive function plays a very serious and real role in physical health. Depression has very real physiological effects so it shouldn't be surprising that those that learn of their virus demonstrate a decline in overall health.

Let's not turn a very real health problem into some pseudoscientific point for significance-junkies.

I see you're only talking about HIV but maybe since you seem to know quite a bit...

I heard a guy on the radio who was a leading nuitritionist saying that no (bloodborne) virus could survive certain levels of vitamin c in the blood.
Now he was using this in the context of the common cold and he said that his own "cure" for the common cold was to take 1g of vitamin c every 2 hours until the symptoms vanished. The show's presenter, intrigued, immediately asked "no virus whatsoever? Wouldn't that have far reaching implications with other more serious viruses for example the HIV virus."

He then said that a study had been done where some scientists took some human t-cells and infected them with HIV for a period of time. then a dose of Vitamin c was administered and after an incubation period
    (i) the human t cells survived with no damage
(ii) 99% of the HIV virus had disappeared/ been destroyed

He also said that no clinical studies based on this experiment had been done on humans (due to it beingnon-profital for pharmaceutical companies etc. but let's not go there)

the show then ran out of time leaving me VERY frustrated! Has anyone heard this?

Not a biologist but how was the human tissue kept alive long enough? surely whole thing is lot more complex putting all the ingredients in a pitre dish? It may require the whole organsim [victim] present.

Hmm... I will look into this and post back later. I seem to recall reading something recently about the "vitamin c" claims.

At high concentration vitamine C is toxic for human.
It's very possible that vitamine C destroy HIV, but it will only destroy HIV not hidden in the Lt CD4 cell. It will be worthless against the virus present in these cells.

Since you're the doctor here do you mind me asking, in your own opinion if necessary:

So is this why it is "99%" effective?

Do you reckon this could be a pausible form of treatment then or could a mutation still occur which would make it immune to the vitamin?

Could vitamin c have any kind of prophylactic effaect against the virus then?

I don't think that it's a form of treatment, otherwise doctors in charge of AID will be stupid to not use, such a largely spread and cheap drug.

I think the question of the article is more related to prophylaxy. Does a high concentration of vit C in your blood can protect you of AIDS ? There is an answer In vitro, but there is no answer in vivo.
And I ask you a question : are you volunteer for testing if vit C protect you from AIDS ?
The answer is obviously no. It's totally unhetical : that's why there is no test like this. It has nothing to do with the pharmaceutical industry. I will also add, that not all the research is performed by the pharmaceutical industry.

One last question then. Do you know of any such tests being carried out on monkeys with SIV?

    No.

But the american heart association has demonstrated, that an exceed of vit C in the organism can lead to an augmentation of the thickness of the carotids arteries (> 500 mg/ day) and also digestives disease (> 2 g/day).

So even if it work, it's not the best way to prevent aids.

There is no need to create illness as conspiracies. People are stupid enough to destroy themselves in a natural way. The news are full of such examples everyday.

AIDS really exist, and only a fool can ignore that. I know people dealing with AIDS daily. Said to them that AIDS de not exist and is a conspiracy : they will laugh at you.

I am suprised that nobody said here that cancer are a conspiracy, and that only treatment kill people : it's a medical conspiracy [/url]

i know aids exosts - i know a lady who died from it - im just speculating..the origin fascinates me, hence my doubts, theories and blah blah blah. i unfortunately have come to the understanding that aids - whether a manmade disease or not - has been used in paticular circumstances which i do not want to specify...this is what has led me to doubt/conspire etc

Recently it has been discovered that a sailor in England who died (I think at Manchester General Infirmary) in the year 1959 actually died of aids. Since this was only a few years after Watson and Crick discovered the double helix (since DNA itself was already known about) the technology did not exist at that time to 'man make' a virus of that kind.

    EDIT:

After I wrote this (to confirm the hospital) I googled the case and found there is now some doubt as to whether the tests were genuine.

One of the reasons that it was thought to come from Africa was in the late 1950's that there was a polio vaccine (which is grown in the simian population - chimps/apes etc). It was thougt that this English guy may have received an infected dose of the vaccination there, however he is/was known to have left Africa in 1957 two years before the vaccine was used. This does not preclude Africa as the source, it has merely shot down one of the supporting legs of the theory. I seem to remember (from somewhere) that simians seem to pass on but not succumb to HIV - which may be a mutation of SIV. Don't take this a gospel as so much of what we are told as fact in August is dismised by September...

    Just wondering

    1. When is AIDS started and how it happened?

    2. Will the disease be contracted when there is exchange of body fluid with people of the same gender?

    3. Is sweat considered body fluid?

    4. Will animal get the disease too?

    5. If you will have highly probability of contracting the disease when you have exchange body fluid with more than 1 person. Then how re-married couple cope with it?

Nobody knows. Many people blame it on gay men (these are normally christians), but in reality the first person believed to have been on record was a straight man. nobody really knows how it "started".

    2. Will the disease be contracted when there is exchange of body fluid with people of the same gender?
The popular answer is "yes." Others suggest the disease doesn't even exist, but I doubt you'd want to be the one to test that theory.

    3. Is sweat considered body fluid?
No, I don't believe there is a case where it has been contracted by comming into contact with sweat.

    4. Will animal get the disease too?
It is believed the original disease came from a human comming into sexual contact with an animal. Hence believed, there is no real evidence to confirm that. Regardless animals do carry the disease I think, but it doesn't affect them.

    5. If you will have highly probability of contracting the disease when you have exchange body fluid with more than 1 person. Then how re-married couple cope with it?
    ...umm...rephrase that so it's legible?

speaking of AIDS, a recent scientifical studies demonstrated that intermittent tritherapy was worse than the continuous tritherapy. The difference was that huge, in term of results, that the study was stopped (the study was too harmfull for the people recieving intermittent therapy)

What I mean for the last question is AIDS will be contacted easily when you have sexual intercourse with more than one person right? So does that mean that re-married couple have a very high chance of getting AIDS? Or you will only get AIDS when there is sexual intercourse with AIDS diesea carrier?

The more people you have sex with the more chances that one of them will have aids.

Basically, that's the rule.which is why you always get them and yourself tested first.

    This is just statistic
Considering that there is let's say one % chance to get aids, with someone on a random pattern, if you mate with 100 % different people, you will have a lot of chances of getting AIDS.
If you go in some African countries, where 10 % of the population has this diseases, the chance will increase dramatically.

Of course you will only get AIDS with a people carrying the HIV. If you mate with one thousands of people, not having AIDS, you won't get it. BTW, aids is not the only STD

I think it should be noted that with intercourse between a male and female, the male has only a fraction of a chance of contracting the HIV virus from an infected female compared to a female contracting the disease from intercourse with an infected male.

but other STD is curable isn't it? The main concern is AIDS.
Anyway, if I am not wrong, I did saw a news report about Lime/lemob being able to cure the disease.

Is there any one who is cured from AIDS?

And does it mean that after curing from AIDS will be immune to it?

Unfortunately, you do not cure all the other STD. There is cases of people dying from fulminans B hepatitis (but there is a vaccination here).

I never heared a serious paper, saying that we are able to cure the disease. And that's all the problems : you sustain the life of the patient for long years, but you never cure him.

in 2006, we are not able to cure AIDS, but we are able to sustain life of people sufferinf of AIDS for many years.
