I don't know where you may live but electronic cigarettes are starting to take off around where I live. Is there any real honest study with plausible evidence around? There seems to be much misleading or unknown information on the web about the chemicals in them. Would you smoke them? How can you know what is really in them? Are they less harmful than real tar filled cigarettes? Should this thread be under the chemistry section of this forum? Thanks for any answers!

From what i have been told so far, they are basically nicotine and water vapor. It most likely depends on the brand of e-cig among other things.

Electric and manual cigarette both are injurious to health.
There is no reality in it that electric cigarette have no side effect for the human body.

Would you care to elaborate with references on this?

This article pretty much sums up all the research I have done even though it's over 2 years old.

I'm also heard that electronic cigarettes is harmful to your body and studies also shown that the flavored vaporized smoke in electronic cigarettes may cause poisoning when inhaled too much.

    More than cigarettes?

There are about 70 known carcinogens in cigarette smoke along with hundreds of other toxic gases, metals and compounds.

If electronic cigarettes are a means to reducing the exposure and therefore the harm of these, they sound like a reasonable thing for people to do if they can't yet bring themselves to give up entirely.

I worked in an office with colleagues that smoked 1-1.5 packs of cigarettes a day. One by one they each switched to the electric cigarettes. They all commented that they were weaning themselves off to lower dosages. Some kept a water only e-cig at their desk to smoke to reduce the external smoke breaks. Of the 11 usual smokers, only 1 continued smoking regular cigarettes.

Do you have links to the studies you are referring to?
