Thread: Is it safe to consume a radiation-sterilized product?

In light of what is happening in Japan, can anyone provide an overview of food irradiation, its history, applications, how it works and where and when it is used?

Irradiating food should not make the food itself radioactive. It should merely kill contaminants, by damaging DNA etc during irradiation.
