Hi, Im not sure if this is in the right section, but can lighting, the type of lighting as in lighting storms, cause mutation, and a second question, what type of light is in lighting, as in the lighting in lighting storms, I just probably repeated myself. Im sure I cannot be the only one but, Lighting arced from my clock to my wireless router, back to the clock, then to me, then back to the clock, ever since Im pretty sure ive mutated, Though intill i am sure i will not post a list of the new found abilities, or ability so far. Call me Crazy, I've even taken a name, which is my username atm.

    I assume you mean lightning...

And if you're exposed directly to lightning I doubt cancer would be your primary concern.

Edit: the post is a little bit funny, but you need to work on your trolling to be a little less obvious.

Well, 1st I'd have to ask ya if there was any thunderstorm outside when it happened
or was it just spontanious lightning..

Maybe it was just an electricity charge from one of the hardwares?

and what do you mean by "weird things"?
Do you claim you can throw spears of lightning now??

if lightning struck in such a way that the DNA in your sperm or eggs was affected, i'd say chances are that you would no longer be able to reproduce

if your gene pool has been chlorinated, it hardly matters whether your DNA has mutated (it's more likely that it's just going to be damaged full stop), you're not going to be able to pass it on

As marnixR points out, in order to produce a reproducible mutant, the mutation has to occur in your sex cells. A mutant cell anywhere else in your body will not be passed on to a new generation. So, assuming lightning could induce mutation, it'd need to strike your abdomen or close to it. This would more than likely kill you, or instantly sterilise you.

Lightning is a discharge of electricity, so I'm not sure by what mechanism it could cause a mutation without also causing the target cell to become necrotic.

No, If I told you, You would think I was crazy, The thunderstorm was finished when it happened, A few hours after. @Thatotherperson, I'm not sure if I can still reproduce, But im not dead. But still, my question is, Is there like a type of light in lighting that can cause a mutation, I just need to know.

I suspect I know where this is going...

Mutations are something normal. You have some, I have some, so does everyone else alive. They occur fairly regularly when copies of DNA are made and cells multiply. They are the very reason evolution can happen and the reason we see the diversity of organisms we do. No need to invoke special circumstances (lightning) as to why you might have one.

Supposing that you had got a mutation in your dna recently, it would be in a very few cells- the original one that mutated, and if any subsequent cells had formed from the first one, those too.

A mutation might affect the way a cell works (most likely by making it die...) but it would not give you special powers.
I am thinking maybe you've read too many X-men comics.

Quiz time! A persons believes something has changed in their body which could be life-threatening. Should they:

    (a) Go and see a doctor?
    (b) Hang around an internet forum talking vague nonsense?

    Seriously?

    I've seen doctors

Apparently there are extraordinary levels of mercury in my body and high levels of gold.

I don't have any illness or symptoms, but I do get a lot of strange dreams.

It's a mystery to them, they are just waiting now to see what develops.

Ultraviolet light causes mutations, so in principle yes certain wavelengths cause mutation.

those two lumps on our shoulders, my dad has the same thing, its just fat from losing a lot of weight, like how people get fat faces, you can get it surgically removed safely though, Thanks for answering, Ill pm you with the symptoms some day. When things quiet down quite a bit.

Hmm.. well unless a muation is extra crispy skin i doubt it. It may shock your sperm and change the DNa in some way and make your babys mutants with lazer beams.
I appoligize for mistakes in grammar, puncuation, and spelling. Cuz i suck at that stuff.

mutation is unlikely to be caused by lightning.
however we cant be 100% sure considering you can make yourself immortal with an irrational particle accelerator, a liquid lunch and a pair of rubber bands.
    everything is mathematical.
