Thread: Smokey green tea leaves!!

I was just drinking me green tea when it struck me.
What if I'll put watery(soft) green tea leaves in me Nargila(Hookah) instead
of normal Nargilla tobbacco??

I'm afraid that the smoke of green tea might have some nasty effects so I'd
appreciate if anyone could confirm or dismiss it so I could see how it smokes xD

I do not recommend any form of smoking, but if and when you do that, please write a long post under its influence. I very much appreciate your, erm, alternative frames of mind.

No, it is not safe.

As a general rule, any smoke contains carcinogens. Even politically correct smoke like incense is packed with nasty cancer causing compounds. Filtering it through water helps, and removes some of the nasties, but you can expect that the result will be unhealthy.

That is a very strange question, ya know! But then since it is Friday, it gave me a good chuckle, so it is all good.

I just wanted to say that green tea is much better to drink-----but what do I know; I have never tried to smoke it?!

By the way, what kind of green tea are you trying to put in a pipe? That stuff can be quite expensive.

I drink tons of it, just wanna try something different with them..

Since this is a science forum, you should have at least some understanding of science. That being the case, you will understand when I say that no-one can credibly claim something is safe till it has been very thoroughly tested. Green tea leaves smoked have never been so tested. Therefore no-one can say if they are safe. I know that the smoke will contain cancer causing materials, but you seem OK with that. Whether it will contain other nasties, such as enough cyanide to kill you instantly ...... Well, we don't know. If you survive, tell us. If you survive, tell us how it tasted, also. I predict it will taste utterly repulsive!

Hanuka, why do we eat lettuce but we don't eat oak leaves? By your logic they're both just leaves and we should be able to do the exact same things with them. But we don't. Because, by NO means, do ALL plant leaves contain the exact same chemical compounds. The nicotine in tobacco is actually a natural pesticide that the plant creates in order to discourage insects from eating its leaves. Caffeine is also a natural pesticide but it has a fundamentally different structure than nicotine.

Not formally in our times, but the histories of tea and smoking give us a solid answer.

We've had tea leaves, and been stuffing different herbs in pipes, for thousands of years. Surely tea's been smoked, experimentally, every time a fellow thought to try his "new" idea. its perfectly safe. smoking anything is like smoking anything else, it can damage your lungs, but if you already smoke one thing, no harm really done by smoking something else.

I think if you really must try then use a little at a time, slowly increase the dose until you either can't remember what you are doing (in which case it's working) or until you are diagnosed with lung cancer. What we don't want is silence from you for several weeks, not knowing whether you on the most incredible high or in a deep coma or worse, simply out of pocket.

As an interesting sideline try making tea out of cigarettes and drinking that, but be sure to write it down as once you 'come back down' you'll want to remember how to get back. I am aware that the rules of this forum do not allow posters to give information on illegal activities but as far as I know drinking tea made from tobacco is not illegal.

That is the stupidest thing I've ever heard. Why the he'll would want to do that? No its not safe, if it was people would be smoking tea all the time.

I really wouln't try it: I heard of some kids who ran out of weed an tried to smoke some random leaves.
Guess what happened: they died.
PS even though you can' belive everything you here, I don't put anything in my body that I don't know the effects of, as a general rule. But hey, it's your body.
