Thread: Is This Legal Here?

As you see, I'm a newbie here. I have a question about the legality of exchanging books here. You know that many illegal books are uploaded in the internet, including many science books. Is it legal in this forum to post the download links to exchange the books with each other?

I'm not sure, but I'd imagine not. Though if you want to look in a book you don't have, I suggest checking out amazon. Some of their books have a "search this book!" option, and if you search for a common word, you can basically get yourself access to the whole thing.

Update from my boyfriend who is much more familiar with all things internets: definitely not legal. But, as with most illegal downloading, I'm sure it happens all the time. Look up bitTorrent.

And yes, I love the searchable amazon books. I wrote a couple papers with their help.

That would be illegal, yes, and The Science Forum discourages the practice. Posts that contain links to torrents or links to files themselves that are copyright violations will be removed.

It doesn't matter anyway.

Pages are generally excluded from those searches however. Still, depending on your field of study, quite a few literature may be available legally, through the Gutenberg project.
