hello, just letting you know that sciforums is back up. I think (in)sanity should go check out the category arrangement, and maybe a few other things, while it is up. I am not quite ready to give up on sciforums, but if the owner (dave) does not do something I will leave to come here permanently. in that case, I would like some of the design of sciforums (because I think it works really well) to follow me here.

    what do you think?

I checked it out, we are looking in to rearranging the topics here.

I found much of it to be very primitive and almost dated. I also noticed it has a bug on the site that says the wrong person started a thread right from the homepage. For all the complaining people did about sci being better I don't see the interface as such, I see the number of posts and members as the only real plus. I couldn't even find a real search on the site, where is it hidden?

Old school meet new school. The new school is changing, the old school appears to be falling down. (No offense)

I'm out to be in the top ranking, not trailing on coat tails. Give this place time, it has done nothing but grow.

    (In)Sanity,

I think a lot of the bitching about it being a better site is just nostalgia. I was only on sciforums for about 3 weeks before it went down this last time, but I really did miss it when it did go down. It was also my first real forum as I haven't been on the ineternet since 1995. Seemed like nothing compared to it. However, I think Invert_Nexus is right about a few things. The atmosphere there was, and probably still is, very laidback and is a "vulgarity-safe" zone, as well as almost a "moderator-free" zone. However, this could be more a result of lack of real caring about the site by Dave than it could be an "approach" to the site. I don't really know, just what I've heard.

However, I disagree with Invert_Nexus about The Science Forum being too, so to speak, regulated. I found this site very similar in atmosphere to sciforums in this respect, and I do love to cuss , though I have tried to curb my use of foul language here, believe it or not. Like I've said before, this site just needs to grow, and I'm sure it will, especially as some of us are "advertising" for your site over there.

I do applaud you on your motivation and enthusiasm. I hope you never lose it, like I have. 8)

Insanity, this is your site, run it as you please. I've plainly stated my reasons for never returning to Sci. As long as you do not promote people with borderline personality disorders to positions of power here, you have my vote. I applaud your choice of Skinwalker as a moderator.

I enjoyed a little profanity here and there, but having been the subject of some potty mouthed diatribes (from a moderator!) I vote for tighter language controls.

I'm not paying for this place, so I'm a guest. As a guest, I'll play by the house rules.

Well this place will just have to play the wait and see game. In the mean time I'll try to make the best of it. Mr. HU is in charge of moderator selection and I really like his choice in Skinwalker as well.

So, let's just enjoy the ride.

    I like it here.

I'm not a sciforumer, and from what I've glanced of the forums there, I personally feel no need to join there. *shrug*

all this site is missing is people, at sci there were always 20~30 people online, but only the full time members really bothered reloctanig when it wont down, so we were stuf without the constant infusion of new ideas that keep the site so fresh smelling
and so the balance of power shifts...

Sorry, I like it here better. I'm not going to be posting at Sciforums anymore .

After reading Porf's post about him not being in any condition to notify anyone why the site was down, and that it should be obvious why the site is down; I've lost respect for him.

First he asserts that people aren't willing to help him pay for the site; and this isn't the first time arrogant old Dave hasn't said this. He's said it a multitude of times. Then, finally, he lets us know how much it cost to run Sciforums. We've been asking him this question for years and telling him that we're willing to help, but he doesn't listen and just shrugs and let's the site crash.

    Bullshit.

I'm sorry, but Dave's excuses just don't cut it anymore. He's a bad admin and he doesn't like Sci anymore. You can tell by the way that he posts that he doesn't like it anymore.

Just by the way that he answers Invert about why the site went down shows his anger towards the place. He should close Sci and shut up and get back to developing software.

I guess what I'm trying to say is that Sciforums won't be on the net next week, because Dave is an arrogant ass.

This is my message in the moderator section:
I'm done here. I'm a moderator on another board and I just don't spend that much time here anymore.

Sorry. Nice to know you all.

    Bye.

On the note of sciforums finances, one thing that deterred me from the site is that they're using VBulletin with advertisements.

VBulletins are expensive and rather hard to navigate compared to phpBBs, which are free.

The advertising that was embedded in the threads annoyed me greatly. Seems to me that it wouldn't be (as) necessary were the site using software like phpBB.

Another vote for keeping the design here. At least you can do a simple thing like quote-within-quote.

I think I'm staying here from now on. I didn't know SW was a mod, congratulations!
