    I used to bartend...so I know 100's of people.

I guess it's how you define friends.

There are many kinds of friends:

(Rarest) The friend you can call when your moving or when you need to be bailed of jail. They're there for you in bad times and good. (I have 3)

Friends you can call to go out with. These are party friends, who you really can't count on in a crunch.

Weed friends...these friends only show up when they know you have weed, or beer, or whatever it is they're trying to leech off you.

Work friends...people you work in close contact with...but maybe don't want to reveal everything about your life.

    I'm sure there are others.

So...SD... are you talking about a total count of all...or just the "inner circle"?

    Fixin' shit that ain't broke.

personally, I have kind of strict requirements for a relationship to be considered an actual friendship, and as a result, I am friendly with plenty of people, but have only one true friend.

i would have given the poll some number ranges instead of yes/no/a few
    would have been more informative

I know a lot of people but I don't have too many to talk openly.

I am on friendly terms with quite a lot of people. On my part, I am always willing to go to great lengths as long as people are honest and realistic in their request. Realistic, in that they understand the cost for me.

I think there are more strategic alliances than genuine freindships.

I have friends, only a select few, about 8-10. Other than that I have people that are okay with me, people that are afraid of me, and people that hate me.
    Think. It's not illegal, yet

I have four friends that communicate with me all the time, and dozens of friends that I talk to every Sunday.

I think it's more of a question of "do you think you have friends. Indeed, some of us have close relations with certain people, which we can call friendship, but you'll be surprised at how backstabbing our society is becoming

Otherwise I think I'm just feeling a little paranoid today...

I agree with you. Most friends are of the "fair-weather" variety. I have many acquaintances and contacts, but very few real friends. It's strange when you realize that you just don't click with many people on that aspect...or that they do end up backstabbing you at some point. That will take me to a whole other topic in society that I could rant on about for days.
