It seems to me that when you look at the evolutionary tree, humans are an aberration on that tree ie. A departure from the norm. 1. The rest of the tree is self contained and self sufficient without humans 2. The rest of the tree is threatened with extinction by this one aberration 3. Humans are the only life-form which destroy the habitat that they depend on. So from a philosophical point of view they could be viewed as a mistake as confirmed in the bible genesis 6.6 ‘And Yhwh (one of many Hebrew words for ‘god’) was sorry that He had made ha-adm (the human) on the earth, and He was grieved in His heart.’

How would you explain the extinction of countless species that preceded man? Evolution?

A microbe destroys its host, if not halted how does either group survive? Adapt?

We humans may surprise even ourselves in the future

All that belongs to human understanding, in this deep ignorance and obscurity, is to be skeptical, or at least cautious; and not to admit of any hypothesis, whatsoever; much less, of any which is supported by no appearance of probability...Hume

Emerald ash borers are threatening to kill all of their host ash trees in North america, so humans are not unique as you claim.

Nope. I hear this all the time. The Matrix contained a speech that hits that point. What was it?

"I'd like to share a revelation that I've had during my time here. It came to me when I tried to classify your species and I realized that you're not actually mammals. Every mammal on this planet instinctively develops a natural equilibrium with the surrounding environment but you humans do not. You move to an area and you multiply and multiply until every natural resource is consumed and the only way you can survive is to spread to another area. There is another organism on this planet that follows the same pattern. Do you know what it is? A virus. Human beings are a disease, a cancer of this planet. You're a plague and we are the cure. "

What makes that speech especially funny is that the first Matrix was filmed in Australia, where rabbits have taken over. In many places they have completely scoured the land bare, killing off all the bushes, grasses and small trees. The ground then erodes, silting the nearby rivers. The rabbits then move on to a new area to scour it. They are the #1 source of loss of biodiversity in Australia today.
    1. The rest of the tree is self contained and self sufficient without humans
And the rest of the tree is self contained and self sufficient without sharks, whales, tigers, eagles, bears and hawks. Are they all "aberrations on the tree" too?
    2. The rest of the tree is threatened with extinction by this one aberration
Again, rabbits are causing many species in Australia to go extinct. Are they "aberrations on the tree" too?
    3. Humans are the only life-form which destroy the habitat that they depend on.
    See rabbit example above.

This is the same Bible that claims pi is equal to 3, and that claims that sometimes the Earth stops rotating for a day or so? Perhaps not the best source of accurate information.

    Umm...the very next bible verse
7 And the Lord said, I will destroy man whom I have created from the face of the earth; both man, and beast, and the creeping thing, and the fowls of the air; for it repenteth me that I have made them.
Jon....Man wasn't the only thing God was pissed at. Why did you single out mankind and leave out the rest?
