. Professor Trelawney’s research assistant has been called upon to work with Professor Hicks’s research assistant on a new task for an upcoming project. Both assistants have been asked to find areas under the standardized normal curve for a set of z scores. Unfortunately, each assistant has arrived at differing areas. Take a look at the information below and figure out why two research assistants keep arriving at different answers.

    Professor Trelawney’s Research Assistant found:
    Z Area
    2.18 .4854
    0.48 .1844
    1.00 .3413
    0.61 .2291
    2.15 .4842

    Professor Hicks’s Research Assistant found:
    Z Area
    2.18 .0146
    0.48 .3156
    1.00 .1587
    0.61 .2709
    2.15 .0158
