I am borrowing this concept from another forum and posting it in the general discussion forum as a bit of an educational ice breaker and an opportunity of everyone to participate and expand their vocabulary.

Here is an overview of how it is mean to go.

" call it "Follow on" for want of something better.

I'll do a few "goes" to give you the idea - the bits in brackets are "in your mind":

    1st player: posts "Road Runner"

2nd player: [thinks of a phrase that starts with "runner" and adds a new word to make the next phrase, as example , "runner bean"] but posts "bean salad"

3rd player: [thinks "salad days"] posts "days past"

3rd player: [thinks "past glory"] posts "Glory Road" (titles etc permitted)

4th player: [thinks "road works"] posts "works party"
I 'll continue in the next post with my follow up of #4. No need to post what your between words are unless someone calls question.

Please note, these are two word responses. Don't even think of going there, lol...

Ideally, the last word of the previous post and the first word of the current post should be a sensible combination, as in

'season robin' means precisely what? Because this could be instructions for a recipe for poultry, I'll let it go, but it does put a different spin on the game than 'season, Robin.'

Therefore, we will expand the rules to permit punctuation for the reason that it allows for more potential in the responses.

    As you were...

I think there's some misunderstandings here. In post #7, I responded to Gansu Guy's riding shotgun with my method acting.

Riding shotgun and method acting should be meaningful phrases, and they are.

However, shotgun method should *also* be a meaningful phrase, and it is. (See here) (Shotgun method is also a means of identifying birds in the wild ... yes, sadly, by shooting them down no longer recommended.)

I am sometimes not able to form meaningful phrases with the last word of one post and the first word of the next post.

    That's easy.
Therapy? (with the question mark) was a rock group.
One of the songs they covered (on a 1994 album) was Iron Man - first made famous by Black Sabbath (and used at the end of the film by that name - I would have said Robert Downey Jr, but that's more than 2 words).
I'm surprised at this being questioned and not my earlier response "Adamantium bones" to "Patch work". (In case no one worked that out, "Patch" was the pseudonym used by Wolverine whenever he visited the island of Madripoor, part of his "work" involved getting into fights - and in those fights he was greatly aided by having adamantium bones...)

So I cut you some slack first time around.

I am still questioning the middle phrase. therapy black

Your example above is more along the lines of a word association game, rather than a follow up game where any two words side by side must still make sense.

This game plays very well on another forum and I copied the opening post to ensure that the starting context was accurate.

Very interesting to observe the responses here.

    Ah.
I, and, obviously, others misunderstood the rules.
    "Tracks tank"?
    "Wedding riding"?
    "Lensherr court"?
My previous responses (all of them!)

I'll adjust my thinking for future responses... Mea culpa.

Thanks Dywyddyr, we'll get this train rolling down the tracks.

Follow On can be quite humorous and oft times challenging as people with different cultures and backgrounds strive to work together. I think it would be hilarious at a party after the first few rounds and in a setting where one might conceivably relax the rules a bit. As a general thought, it is good to keep things a bit simple for if the word use gets too obscure, the followers get bogged down and lose interest. With your extensive reading background, I know that you could likely tie most of us in knots six days out of seven, but where's the fun in that? (For US, not you, lol...)

So, working from your offering of Black Sabbath, I now proceed with...

    (sabbath worship)

    worship song

What would make it a bit more understandable would be to write the intermediate word in a sentence then use the derivative words for someone else to follow on with.

    for example worship song
    Neil Diamond song song
    song sing

Scheh just got finished straightening the duck out, not because he was dumb but because he was too cerebral. I think we need to take a different approach here. This is a game, not a discussion. It has nothing to do with gospel music or writers of lyrics and other fine literature.
