I have a neighbor who runs a dog rescue... in her home. Her home, clothes, kids ALL smell of ammonia. Recently she has had trouble with her HVAC system. The technician told her it was due to the animal urine saturation in her house, i.e. it pitted the aluminum coils in her system and she lost her freon.
    First, is this possible?
Second, how hazardous is it for her neighbors as well as her kids and her self?
Third, how can she rid the home of this awful odor?

Well..Yes it is possible, and it likely is unhealthy.

She could have her house cleaned and quit letting her dogs piss on the carpets.
