I have been playing around with the idea of using interlocking sections to create a long tube. The tube would be in a vacuum and lined with superconducting magnets (like the maglev train, but stronger!). A payload would be slowly accelerated until it reaches a speed of about 950 m/s. It then shoots off towards orbit, stabilizes, etc.

Mainly I want your guys' input on such a concept. I have a youtube video that describes it a bit more, you can shoot me a message if your interested.

I am interested in any means of putting payload into orbit potentially more efficient than our current "balance the payload on top of a huge pile of explosive material and strike a match" method.

Sounds a lot like the launch loop approach. Google it and see if it's applicable.
