Will there actually be humans LIVING on mars for the rest of their life? This seems like the most epic opportunity in the world am I right?

This would officially be the time we are extraterrestrial life sustaining species on another planet for the first time.
I am obviously quite interested in something of this sort, but of I course I would like to learn a bit more. Based on my research so far it seems that people will be indeed going to mars for the rest of their life.
1) Will this shorten my lifespan at all? I read somewhere that particles from super novas can damage your brain/organs, will the "living space" be secured?
2) What other things should I keep in mind or worry about?
3) Will it have a purpose? I would want to run experiments and such to help science.
Thank you physics for the help!
