    Game: 2048

I've been playing this frustrating (but oddly relaxing game) for a few days. I've managed to get to tile 512 numerous times and once to 1024. The cynical part of me keeps having the nagging thought that it is not possible to get to 2048 and the creator of the game is having a laugh at my expense. That's my excuse anyway...

How far can you guys get with this?

I cannot get past the number 512, but it seems you can reach the number 2048:

Got to 512 the first time, with a 256 also in there, but that's it.

I had some progress making it to 1024, but made a wrong move and it all went downhill from there. This is the furthest I've ever made it to.

2048 that site allows you to run it and it even takes the computer thousands of moves. Not a game I'd play.

    I guess it is randomized.

Some progress has been made to solve the puzzle. Almost had it twice, but no dice.

    Nice.
    Well done.

I'm still working on it. I recently had 2 x 1024 tiles, 19000+ points and plenty of spare spaces. Within the space of a few seconds it all went to pot. Grrrrrrr...

Based on recent events, I think its conclusive that this game is definitely solvable and it may be even possible to go beyond that figure without computerized assistance. This is a different set of images of achieving 2048 again and aiming for 4096.

Not sure if anyone else is still attempting to solve the game, but I've made additional progress at but did not hit the elusive 4096.

Here's a video explaining some of the mathematics behind the game. Apparently going beyond 2048 is a popular past-time.

I got to 2048 immediately after watching this. Yay! (Not done it since though).

I think I've gotten 2048 between fifteen to twenty times since you've introduced the puzzle, and my personal best was achieving it thrice in a single day if memory serves me well. Based on my experience with the puzzle so far, getting to 4096 and beyond is the real challenge. I'll take a look at the video you've provided later to see if it offers any additional strategic advice that might have eluded me.

Congrats by the way. Will you putting in additional effort to strive for 4096 too?

The interesting part of the video (and the other video mentioned in this one) is that they reckon that it should be possible to get to the 65,536 tile if everything went nicely. It's probably unlikely that very many people - if any - will ever manage such a feat though.

I think I've just about exhausted this puzzle for it's replayability.

    Final verdict being 2048+2048+2048+2048 = 4096+4096 = 8192 with a personal best score of 103504 in seventy-five days.

My thanks to Zwirko for introducing a fantastic puzzle.
