    Hi All
There is a specific word to describe cross species 'friendships' especially when the bond is formed between two animals one prey, the other predator.

    Thanks in anticipation.

I think it is called comensalism.
The only other thing that comes to mind is parasitism.

You might be looking for mutualism which means both organisms benefit; which would probably best fit a friendship of any kind.

Commensalism, means one benefits but there no effect on the other organisms.

Maybe mutualism is a better word for it.

After thinking about it, they might be asking about when a predator take a prey animal as a pet instead of eating it, kind of like we take farm animals as pets.
I don't know if there is a simple word for adopting pets. If there is such a word then I am stumped about what it is.

    Thanks Dan and Lynx
I'm settling for mutual altruism which admittedly does not convey the, normally, predatory nature of the relationship.
