Why does the geographic north pole of the earth attract the north pole of a Magnet and the geographical south pole attract the south pole of a bar magnet??![]()

Because this:

The "North" poles of magnets where labled because compasses align with the magnetic field and the end that points North was marked with an N (for north).
Magnets, if left free to do so, also align in the same way, so the convention became to call that end the North magnetic pole. Since it is the opposite magnetic pole that it will turn point to, the pole in the Northern hemisphere had to be a South magnetic pole.
I Know that some confusion can come about when we talk about the North magnetic pole, but in this instance, the "North" is being used geographically and not to decribe the magnetic polarity.
But why is it so, that the geographic north pole acts as the magnetic south pole and vice verse????????????? #pyoko
As Janus said, it is a geographical convention that was decided on. That is the why.
Thank you pyoko, janus, I was in search of this info for some time. I had already asked this here, but no body replied .
