So on Monday I ordered a new video game that was supposed to be delivered the next day (yesterday) so there I was sitting waiting as patiently as I could all day yesterday, eagerly checking in on the delivery status on CourierPost's website every now and then. Nothing.

Today, more of the same. Checking in to track the status of my delivery... when I check it just now, apparently according to the website it was attempted to be delivered about half an hour ago (1.45pm on Wednesday). With me sitting at home in full audio range of the front door. So I wander down to the mailbox to pick up the "Sorry you were out. Sucker" card and phone the courier company to tell them about their courier's inability to walk up a driveway and I get put on hold while the representative contacts the courier driver... only to be disconnected a few minutes later.

If my housemate gets home to find the driveway littered with delivery truck and/or body parts, well, I WILL get my new video game.

It's called Bravely Default, it's a role-playing game for the Nintendo 3DS. Made by the people who created the Final Fantasy series and reminiscent of the style that first made Final Fantasy loved by many people, as opposed to today's current style of Final Fantasy games.

Courier Hostage: the purpose of the game is to get a parcel delivered to your door on time. Danger lurks however, from online shopping to actual physical delivery one must avoid the pitfalls of bad customer service. Sounds kind of goofy but it mimics real life experience quite well. I give it a 9.5 just for the realistic nature of the game. We've all been there but trying to find the perfect shipment, well that's a real test of skill. Good luck.

    Sounds groovy.

On a related note, I just got a package dropped off by the UPS guy (9:15 pm). I answered the door to collect it and he said, "How ya doing?" I said, "Good, you?" to which he replied, "Living the dream, brother." Cracked me up. Considering the tracker says my package was loaded on his truck 14 hours ago, I gotta wonder what kind of day he had. Gotta feel for those guys a little bit during the holiday season. I worked a receiving dock back in the day and got to hear all kinds of stories while they were dropping off our packages.

Funny, today I just happened to meet our regular courier today. He looked like he could use a vacation. He said the same thing, no sleep and 12-14 hour days recently. In Canada, there's even a tougher game than Courier Hostage, it's called Canada Post. Try and get a package delivered across 3 time zones in less than 21 days....best advice: book early and hope they don't lose it.
