3) Because absolute zero is defined by the complete absence of molecular motion. You cannot have negative motion.

Decreasing the diameter would speed up rotation due to conservation of angular momentum (the usual example is an ice skater tucking in her arms to spin faster, then extending them to slow down) and lead to a shorter day.

But, of course, doing that is not "easy" (even though a few million tons of dust falls on the Earth every day).

Imagine you're running along, then you slow down to a jog, then you slow down to a walk, and you keep slowing down until you get to a complete stop.

You can't go "slower" than a complete stop, because even if you started walking backwards, you'd be moving again.

Temperature can be measured by the speed at which atoms and molecules move and vibrate. A complete stop would be absolute zero, with no atomic movement whatsoever. You can't go slower than a complete stop, so you can't get colder than absolute zero.

Even if the atoms and molecules started vibrating in the "opposite" direction, they'd be moving again and so develop a detectable temperature, and thus be warmer than absolute zero (not colder).

This movement wouldn't be "negative motion" it would simply be ordinary motion.
