post some of your favorite myth and or legends
I don't want to read them. I want to read science.
The earth is flat!
there is no need whole story to be posted... a link is good enough or name
The Bible.
...someone had to say it...
Scientific myths and legends, I take it.
1. When I was a young lad, people would say that, when a cancer was exposed to the air by means of surgery, it would cause the cancer to grow aggressively. This explained why surgeons would operate on cancer patients and then the patients would soon die from cancer. My guess would be that the surgeons were operating when cancer was in its later stages (last ditch effort?), and thus, too late anyway. This myth especially didn't make much sense to my young scientific mind because people mostly said it about lung cancer, and of all the organs of the body, the lungs were infiltrated through and through with air!
2. Not exactly a myth/legend, but obstetricians got the idea few decades ago that adding up all the weight gain during pregnancy amounted to about 20 pounds, so if if a mother's weight gain was limited to 20 pounds, she'd have an 8 pound baby. Wrong.
3. Not exactly a myth/legend, but prior to that, new mothers had to stay in the hospital for a week or two — bed rest, of course — and then another week or two at home, so after almost a full month of bed rest (for no real reason, it turned out), they had to recuperate from their recuperation. Bad.
4. Malaria (literally, mal aria "bad air") was thought to be caused by the "bad air" near swamps and other less than lovely waterways. Wrong.
I will be more interested in myths which have been proved right? (if there are ?
)
I find greek mythologie interesting and have much to do with reality if you read it the right way
The comedic female.
