Yes I see it is just the two admins in all (Kalster and Markus). But what can an admin do here that the mods can't? Does he or she have extra access to the site ?(eg appointing new mods I suppose)

I'm not really sure what extra abilities they have, but I know they have a few. I would totally vote that Kalster makes the duck an admin. He's active enough and trustworthy.

    Who is or who was?

Jimmy Carter was one I loved.

Who is? I think I would like to see Elizabeth Warren and Kamala Harris on a ticket.

Snow joke. Some parts of UK has had up to 5 inches of snow. Roads closed, trains delayed, schools closed.
Country can't cope. Roads get gritted after the event, not before.

For the last three days Niagara has had over 50 cm of snow with temps around -20C and winds averaging 50-60 kmh. Today it all stopped. By Monday they’re calling for +9C and rain. Going to be a lot of water around. My sump pump will practically be running non-stop. All the catch basins in the street are blocked with snow and ice so will be a wet drive. Schools have stayed open through all this but school buses were grounded. People had to drive their kids to school and pick them up later, just so they could go to work.

IOW, hard to feel sorry for UK.

    This is snow. https://www.eagleradio.co.uk/news/lo...stranded-cars/

    1 inch will cause trouble.
    3 inches big trouble.
5 inches - total chaos. Motorists stranded all night or having to spend the night in shelters. Trains cancelled. Airports closed.
When the snow has nearly gone the gritting lorries will go out.

Looking at those pics of road conditions I’d say they’re not too bad. A bit slushy looking but as long as there’s visible pavement (ruts) then should be no problem. Slow down and leave some space between vehicles. Those pics remind me of my days in Vancouver... same thing happens...Panic and chaos.

    Happy Valentine for that.

Babe, zin...having been inducted into the new rules of golf yesterday by playing a round with a couple of guys, what are your impressions?
Can leave the flag in when putting, don't need to go all the back to replay a lost ball (but 2 shot penalty), play when you're ready (slow coaches won't like that).
Traditionalists will probably hate it, but it seems much better to me. Now everyone can get round in under 3 hours, in contrast to one round I played when after 5 hours we were still only on the 14th.

I am one who prefers it off even off the green. More hit the hole and spin out in my experience.

    no problem

Assume you mean take the flag out when chipping or putting from off the green.

More hit the hole and spin out in my experience.
Assume you mean hit the flag stick and spin away.

I like leaving the pin in. I think helps me line up putt (such a mental game). Although watching the pros last weekend leaving the pin in when the wind was blowing, the flagstick shaking, looked kind of unnerving. I think all things even out, the pin gives and takes. I remember hitting the actual flag while chipping once. The ball kind of got wrapped in it, then unfurled to drop my balll right in the cup. Otherwise it was heading a long ways off. All the rules, if it speeds things up I’m all for them.

Locally.....Still think it will be hard to convince duffers to stop spending an eternity to look for that Pro V ball lost in the woods. They don’t care how long they take and when it’s every hole, time adds up fast. Hackers need to learn golf etiquette or start hitting a cheaper ball.

I know courses need to make money but when the booze cart shows up on every 2nd hole there are some who can’t resist it. Especially if it’s a great looking gal driving. In a tournament field of mainly men, that can slow down play with the added delays the intoxicated can bring.

That should be illegal in the new rules. Do you also have burger bars on the course? Only place I've ever seen one here is after the 9th on Gleneagles - popular with Americans. On some courses you can phone an order for refreshments on the 6th and they will be ready after the 9th.
Can't look for lost ball any more than 3 minutes now, and no shot should take more than 40 seconds. Drop from knee height rather than shoulder height should save additional quarter second.

We have a bar cart that travels the course. I don't drink and play, but also has food.

Even Olympic has two places for hamburgers on the course!! We can also order food here from the cart to pick up between 9's.

Will this mean players will get timed out with a 1 shot penalty? Just as well some tour pros have retired. Who decides what is knee height? It should be from the position of a dropped hand with straight arm.
Just played 9 holes and the weather was quite hot. Shirt sleeves. Never known it to be like it on this date before. Is Trump in the Azores?

Just played 9 holes and the weather was quite hot. Shirt sleeves. Never known it to be like it on this date before. Is Trump in the Azores?
I shall be in Scotland in July BTW.....I think it is from YOUR personal knees...….so my thought is straight had down to knees and rop

After several days of what feels like near baking weather I'm observing spring flowers, tree blossoms and bees and people sunbathing or walking around and it's freezing February.

Is that a cruise taking in the British Open (to us The Open Golf Championship)?
It's not in Scotland this year, but at Royal Portrush in Northern Ireland. In reality, not too far from the Scotland.
The Open is always played on seaside links which have special features + wind, strong wind, or gale force wind. It might be the middle of summer but my advice is to take warm clothing.

Had that option. Not my cup of tea. I could have marshalled at the US OPEN at Olympic but I'd rather watch it on television!!! I shall dress as I do for Mainland home!!! I know that drill!!!!! Like a little bunny rabbit!

So what is a sailboat golf cruise? I know the big beasts dock at Greenock and then some guy taxis the players to Troon or Prestwick where they pay big bucks to play on famous links, while bypassing the real pleasures of Scottish golf.

Ah, that feeling when you spot a student sleeping in your lesson... You drop a pile of textbooks by their head. The student jumped 2 feet in the air and started crying

You trying to be called to the principal’s office? You can meet the kid’s parents and their lawyer(s) at that time.

Did you pop some bubble wrap? Little Judy may be traumatized for life. Poor thing might start crying every time she hears a book fall. Psychologist, psychiatrist, social worker all add up. Then it’ll be her failing grades are a direct result of being startled and with that a private tutor, eventually she becomes antisocial with habitual drug use, more therapy, rehab, raped, pregnant and tossed in prison. Hope you can afford it

Without wanting to alarm you, the seas around Scotland can be hazardous at any time of year.

    Enthusiastic contrafibularities!
Which means in Blackadderspeak I was only pulling your leg. Hope you have a good time sailing and golfing.

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hOSYiT2iG08

I actually revisited Doctor Johnson's birthplace museum at the weekend, and the word I heard most was contrafibularities.
But still not in any dictionary.
It was also pointed out to me that Robbie Coltrane looks very similar to the portrait of Johnson, which appears to be true.

Hey ox, back to golf. Watching a Netflix series on losers and France's Jean Van de Velde was fittingly featured in last segment. He's taken The Open(1999) meltdown well. Why he didn't play it safe with 3 stroke lead and 1 hole to go will however, always be a headscratcher.

I liked the series. Seven stories and two off them involved the French, Van de Velde and the other Suriya Bonaly, figure skater. My favourite story, two actually, was the story of an Italian guy who got lost while running in a 5 day marathon across the desert in Morocco and the other was of a gal in Alaska who competes in the annual dogsled race called the Iditarod. If you have Netflix then check it out.

Probably because he hadn't been in that situation before. Ball lying on pebbles in running water. Seemed like a bunker shot with a bit of refraction, but it never works because the club contacts stone before the ball. Made that mistake myself. Because we like losers better than winners he was more popular than the actual winner.

It's all climate change debate now. Protestors in London. David Attenborough having his say on TV tonight. As he has taken flights all over the world for 70 years now, I wonder what his carbon footprint is.

You might get the evil eye.

Reminds me of when my French hosts pointed out the inscriptions of Boney's victories on the Arc de Triomphe when I was just a school boy and I naively asked them where Waterloo was

Do you have a scientific world view?
    As for me:
    Everything is Darwinian.
    Gravity is curved space.
Time is a mainly a mental illusion but still exists as part of the big picture.
Humans are merely a rearrangement of atoms.
    Atoms are empty space (nearly).
Intelligent alien life does not exist.
There is no meaning to the cosmos.

WEGS!! Awaiting eye surgery # 15 and this time I am the guinea pig.....seems this is a first.....and kind of have to do it or risk infection and possible loss of eyesight and/or eye. SO...gulp....bummer is I have not been able to get into the ocean because of this since August.....and the ocean for me is soothing. Spousy is so supportive ....kids worried but try to pretend they aren't ...and just TODAY got a surgery date.....so deep breaths

I'm so sorry to hear of that, babe! You have a positive spirit in everything, so it'll get you through this I'm sure. Sending you hugs.

I'm doing great. I wish I could go back to sleep though, went to bed too late and now I'm at work

A random observation, many people seem to be lurking around here, but not joining/posting. We all come and go, I've been off for a while, but now that I'm back, it's just something I've noticed. I remember when this site was so busy, I miss it.

Yea, we could have a cigar section.

I saw your yoga post on the other site, geordief - I do yoga, and it's all about being present. Not stressing if you're ''doing it right or wrong.'' Getting the poses down (although that obviously is important), isn't the main goal either, I think it's the whole process of getting there that makes it so awesome. You'll learn about yourself through yoga.

    FUCKING SCARED....

I am truly scared. I will joke about it.... will make light of it...but my panic attacks are more severe as it looms...I keep taking deep breaths and telling myself, what they screw up on me might help somebody else....and I do know that .....I am so freaked out....deep breaths

    Sorry to vent

IMO not all of yoga is good because there is far too much of it, so can it be condensed into a minute?
One solution is probably the sitting rising test.

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oQIbffQj2xM

Beginners should ensure they have a sofa behind them in case they fall backwards.
Drop down and come back up on the outside of the feet.
At the moment I probably score 9.5 out of 10.

No need to be sorry for venting. That's perfectly understandable. I would be freaked the fuck out too! Sending good thoughts your way babe.

Pet peeve of the day - when perfectly good threads, go way the fuck off topic. And the person who keeps taking it off topic, makes the entire thread about them. Omg, go on Facebook for that shit.
