I have a younger sister, who listens to no one who has offered her wisdom, and is miserable and bitter.

My Uncle Wally passed away last week.....I am in Hawai'i and I won't be there as IF I could get a flight the cost of altering my ticket and getting rooms to stay when I arrived would be about $1600.00. I called my Cousin (well my Auntie, but she was sleeping) and told her I couldn't come. She was FINE with it. Older sis..lives in Washington State, and she can get a flight down but not a flight back.she can't go.

Asked younger sister if she could pick up Mom (since she is going to the service) and take her. She said it was inconvenient. I am so ****** off at her.

I called my son. Bless his heart, I raised great human beings!! He will drive the 2 hours to pick up Mom, take her to the service (another hour drive) and when she is ready to leave, he will drop her off and drive home. SIX hours of driving and luckily he is not scheduled for work that day. I will pay for his gas and his time. He can't afford the gas. He is trying to work and go to school.

Why are people so selfish! I am upset.

~ We have more in common than a hair colour.. and a general interest of astronomy and sciences..
In the extended family that is of my wife and I and all of the In laws and sisters of.. nephews and nieces.. cousins and all..
In this culture all are family, and 'Family' is above all else. I understand that.. but it's difficult to see past the selfish
' It's all about me ' that is rampant in some.. ugly..
My own two siblings ( both girls are better balanced and I have much pride in them and of their thoughts.. Adaline and I are like you proud of the people our children have become.. but I agree..
Why are some so pig headed selfish.. and it's their own lives that they make miserable and harder than it need be..
I no longer dispense advice or opinion unless it is sought.. The wife and I are very fortunate that we see things as simpler than many..
You are doing the right thing and your sister can not see it.. It's her wiring not yours that's got a fault..
~ I hope you find comfort in US...

I only watched this just now. It is an 8 minute Gatoride commercial and parody of Monty Python.

In Canada, we celebrate Thanksgiving on October 13th this year. That gives a nice little break before Christmas, at which time turkey is also frequently on the menu. I have a nice premium little bird in the freezer, purchased at a discount when our store quickly cleared out stock to facilitate renovations. Cooking a turkey dinner with the trimmings always makes the house smell wonderful and sets the cat to drooling as she supervises the proceedings. Turkey is high on her list of desirable foods, lol.

Interesting. So I thought turkeys just had to survive the month of November, but I guess the ones close to the border should be especially careful throughout the whole season

LOL...Yes, it's kind of like our 'national' coffee franchise, a "Double, double"* on turkey.

It's weird how things change with time, isn't it? I remember when the sciforums site was so busy and this site, too. So many people I remember who have left, and they were so fun. And then I left, and came back, and everything is different and the same, all at once.

Glad this site's back up, I missed many of you.

It is a weird feeling. I remember how the site was when I joined in 2010, and through the end of 2011. Then I was sporadic until late 2014, and have been regular since 2015, but the site has stayed the same in many ways, but in other ways it feels completely different to how it was when I started.

Glad to have you back though wegs.

Thanks Falconer, and Ged...it's nice to see everyone back together.

I went to find the site tonight, typed it into the browser...but I added an 's' on forum by mistake, and it took me to an error page. I was like...no, it can't be! The site just came back, then I realized, I had a typo.

I really hope this site stays up, even if there are occasional glitches, because if there is good moderation, then the site will continue to progress and grow.

I wonder when we will know enough and have the technical ability to design and produce nanobots. Imagine what they could be used for. One use I can think of is for medicine. Perhaps we could use them to cure many types of disease somehow.

All advances can be a two edged sword. In the wrong hands they can be harmful.

It seems IS had adapted drones to their own ends in the fighting in Raqqa,as an example.

But I can't say what their "normal" uses might turn out to be.

So I saw the back half a large black insect crawling onto the underside of my car drivers seat. It appeared to be either a beetle, or an arachnid. More than likely it had been stowed away on my person. In my current line of work Iím pretty sure at least a dozen of both crawl onto me every day. Itís possible I might pull something like that out of my pocket with some chqnge or something sometime. If itís a spider and there it is in my hand, I might scream like a bitch. I hope not, really Iíd rather just gently set it down. If I pulled a beetle
out of my pocket, that would be cool.
I was some of the mud that got to sit up and look around.

An example of nanobots gone wrong is the hypothetical Grey Goo end of the world scenario.

Does anybody know if we are making any progress towards a humanoid robot? Can the prototype, or prototypes, if they exist, in some form or another, walk, think, and operate like a human?

to engineer a human like thinking proces, one must first have access to a complete and accurate specification (how does a human think?)
then there is the hardware architecture to which the specification needs to be translated
