I'd say we are doing quite a good job here but Neurobonkers makes an interesting point here:

Achieving herd immunity against pseudoscience in the age of the filter bubble and the social news revolution | Neurobonkers | Big Think

Our society is inundated with misinformation, misconceptions, cranks and pseudo-science.

So we are obligated to hammer it, debunk it, correct it and fight it at every opportunity.

    So we are obligated
And, therein lies the basis of the social contract:
Not only do you not allow negative shit to be done to you, but you do not allow it to be done to others either.

    bravo

    Well... to a degree.
    You know, within reason.

I can tell others about an urban legend within reason. I cannot save everyone around the globe from lightning strikes.

I'm only willing to put forth so much effort, you see.

    Ok I see.

I agree about the avalanche of misconceptions, with one caveat...

Whats not easy, are issues related to inherent human created secrecy and organized deception (war, Cold war, intelligence, organized crime, etc) about which the would-be debunkers rely on common information / Main Stream Media that is in fact Propaganda/Lies/Spin, without reading and analyzing archived de-classified documents. Imo, most people do not know the scale of mainstream media disinformation and rely on what news/journalists/government officials/military say happens the same way that peasants believed church officials in other times (he walked on water, and flew on a magic horse, and...). Its easy to figure out that Snake Oil Lary's or Reverent Jones claims arent true, but not easy to figure out the media are bullshitting you.

    Too bad.

We've all heard the accusations of, "know it all" and the like. Who cares. Their attacking other egos in defense of their own.
It's odd, really, how prone we are to reject correction considering the benefits of accepting it.
