I am a year 12 student studying the SACE subject Research Project. I currently attend Saint Ignatius College in Australia. The research project allows students to undertake research in their area of interest and then present a research outcome, the topic I have chosen to research is over fishing.
The survey is only 9 questions (multiple choice) all repsonses are greatly appreciated.

If you have any personal knowledge on the topic, it will be a great help if you shared it with me.

    Thanks everyone

I don't take surveys that don't pay me something, how much is my time worth to you?

So I took your survey and 2 questions asked my opinion instead of answering the question with what answers were allocated but I could not complete the survey until I checked off an answer. That doesn't make sense for if you're asked for an opinion instead of their answers then that should be allowed to complete the form. But alas it wasn't so I had to choose an answer that best suited the question. You should try to have "your opinion" as a one that can be checked off too.

    It's surveymonkey...
Which is the second time a student has posted on here using SurveyMonkey that I have seen.

Most colleges and Universities will host proper surveys for their students, so I am a bit suspicious about why this other website keeps popping up.

Either way, I don't do enough fishing to be applicable to the survey and my method of fishing simply cannot affect the global fishing industry in any way whatsoever- I don't use a fishing pole or net.

Nothing wrong with Surveymonkey...many colleges and universities recommend it as one possible tool for constructing and taking them.

It took me about a minute to complete....no charge :-)

There are quite a few credible studies that look at the issue of overfishing and shifting catches as a result of overfishing top species. I used to be a commercial fishermen and got out just in time to watch the New England cod industry collapse during the mid 1980s. Haddock, Pollock and over shore scallop industries collapsed about the same time.

By 2048, increasing ocean acidity, might be more of the problem than commercial fishing.

I looked at the survey but I am not participating in any more 'cookie cutter' projects. I am willing to contribute my input to various queries, but in my own words, not in 'one size fits all answers'.

Regarding the fishery, I am aware that the wild salmon runs in the north have been very sporadic over the last two decades and that the politics over the allowable harvest and whom should have what percentage gets very contentious between nations that share waterways as in Alaska and Yukon. We are at the end of the salmon run and the fish are being heavily harvested before they can reach their spawning grounds. Then there is the matter of international waters and what goes on there and also the debate over fish farming and the risk/benefit analysis of how it impacts the wild stock.

My present fish intake is limited to sustainably sourced Tuna as evaluated by various organizations at arms length, wild salmon that has been locally harvested, and kippered herring that is Canadian caught and processed.

Other issues enter the subject as well. For example, locally raised fish often use wild harvested feed fish, which in turn starves out the local wild predatory species. Quite a few of the rivers in the Pacific Northwest are effectively cut off by nets during the salmon runs, but Native Indians harvest and combine the sperm and eggs while cleaning them and send the artificially fertilized eggs to hatcheries upstream.
