Dear guys + girls, i really need some help as to how to structure my essay and to get the full marks that i really need for my coursework so maybe you could help em answer the following points. you are going to research into the movement of these aircraft.
    you should find out:
how the turning rotor makes a helicopter move upwards
how the rotor is made to turn in a helicopter and in an auto gyro
how the auto rotation is used to help land a helicopter safely if the engine fails
why a helicopter falling during auto rotation could reach a terminal speed without the pilot changing any controls
the effect of the weight of the helicopter on the terminal speed.

alot of thanks in advance... and i really need some answers fast so please write up all you know

    love being ageek!

    You're not a geek, you're a wannabe.
Otherwise you'd have this or this in your personal library.
They'll answer ALL of your questions.

So you want us to do your homework? OK, I charge by the word so how many words will you be paying me for? JK, Do your own homework, that way you'll learn more. Good luck.

Why should I "learn some manners 1" when all you've done is post a list of questions that, if you'd bothered doing your course work, YOU should have been able to answer.

1 For your information I have learned ALL the manners I'll ever need. I just choose when and where to apply them.

Did you actually take the time and read post # 2? In it there's 2 links that you should have seen and they are very useful so instead of being upset you should be thanking Dywyddyr.

    Incorrect Lift Theory

read this series and you'll then know how airfoils work and once you understand that then you'll know how a rotor works.
Sometimes it is better not knowing than having an answer that may be wrong.

The only thing I can say about Helicopters is I've tried a flight simulator and once you barely start to loose control its almost impossible to regain control (as a would-be/trainee pilot), because its almost impossible to compensate by the "exact" amount without over compensating (or falling short), and each time you miss the mark the difficulty to regain control is increased to a new level (tough -> difficult -> very difficult -> almost impossible -> wheres the eject button? oh crap. mayday!). Im guessing computer assisted flight controls have been introduced since.

    Since when?
Helicopters have been flying quite successfully sans computer control since Ellehammer's 1912 effort.

All pilots already know, helicopters WANT to fall out of the sky.

To be fair to them, it is GCSE coursework, they are doing there work-that is what you have to do. Research and investigate. Maybe they need extra help. This is the best place to look for it. In fact this is the main reason for this site. You are signed up to it so I can't possibly understand why you could be on your high horse. When you are being SO hypocritical. If you cant help them, don't comment, if you can great and you did say you left some links so fair enough but just leave it at that next time maybe? Just thought I'd give you a little food for thought. Thanks

Child. Do you own homework. We had to do our research when we had homework. Learning how to do your own will be rewarding in the end, and help train you for EVERY or ANY field you plan to go into.

Maybe you missed the fact that I did give links that would provide the information.
Maybe you missed the fact that the request was for basic information - information that would have been covered in the coursework.

There was no "high horse" nor "hypocrisy".

I would ask you to take a closer look at the OP. I love being ageek does not ask for help with her homework. She asks for "answers to the following points" and says "please write up all you know".

I shall give I love being ageek credit for being a competent writer of English. She does not say "could you point me in the right direction", or "have you any thoughts on how I might approach this". Such questions would be asking for help. No, she wants "answers" and "all you know".

Now such a request is actually against forum rules. Unfortunately those rules are unwritten. If I had spotted this thread at an early stage I would likely have donned my moderator hat, pointed this out, and asked I love being ageek to tell us what her provisional ideas were. But put simply, we don't want to do other people's homework for them because we know that does not, in the long term, help them. We want to provide them with guidance towards the correct answers and to confirm those when they arrive there.

Maybe they need extra help. This is the best place to look for it.
But help is not what was requested; what was requested was "the answers". Sorry, but it is morally irresponsible to damage a students learning experiences by providing them straight up answers. If you reflect on the matter for a while you may come to recognise that it is in the same class of activities as cheating in exams. Maybe not as bad, but still inherently dishonest.

In fact this is the main reason for this site. You are signed up to it so I can't possibly understand why you could be on your high horse.
Well, actually that is not the main reason for the site. The main reason is so people can talk about science. Homework help is one reason, but it is a minor one.

As to why a member might feel peeved at a request for "answers", try this. We see a small, but persistent stream of persons coming on to the site, making a single post and hoping to have answers provided. It is typically the case that these are people who have left the matter too late to do properly and are now trying to cover their ass. Was that the case here? I'll let you judge, but when the OP says "I need some answers fast" then I know where my bet is placed.

When you are being SO hypocritical.
Perhaps your dictionary defines hypocritical in a different way. I can't see anything hypocritical at all, unless it is the OP asking to have her work done for her and then getting uppity when she is called on it. Good luck to her trying that approach in the work place.

If you cant help them, don't comment, if you can great and you did say you left some links so fair enough but just leave it at that next time maybe?
Yes, Dywyddyr gave her help. Genuine, immediate, quality, short term help. Then he went further and tried to give her long term help. Tried to get her to examine how out of line, self defeating her approach was. For this he was chastised. Go figure.

I appreciate the sincerity in and the intent behind your post. It just turns out to be misguided. I hope you can see that, but would be happy to explore the issue in more depth on this thread, or by pm if you prefer.

    Regards,
    JG
