Up until March 8th of last month, I was crippled in my right arm, had chronic constipation, and chronic bronchitis and chronic sinusitis. The first time I took Diatomaceous, it cleared my sinuses, I no longer suffer from a rolling cough, it cleared my chronic constipation, and most important of all: my arm is almost completely healed. I had torn ligaments and tendons in my arm in August of last year. The pain was excruciating. The third time that I took the Diatomaceous Earth, I was lifting babies and toddlers as if nothing was ever wrong. You will never convince me that it doesn't work. I am living proof. I am 64yrs old and feel more energetic than I did at 25yrs.

Sounds almost too good to be true.

Just think, if you take it one or two more times and you can bring about world peace, avoid all future famines and provide free energy for all.

Yet you don't know enough to know that taking diatomaceous earth is nonsense and a waste of time.
And you also ascribe all of those "cures" to it.
    Go figure.

you'll have to pardon "strange" quite often, what he thinks is humorous, is actually quite abrasive

    and
You ain't the first one I've read to have mentioned the benefits of diatomaceous earth.
    so
    how much do you consume?
    side effects?
and how to you acquire it?

perhaps its a different grade that is used to patina bronze sculptures?

I thought Strange was spot on.
Not at all abrasive but very funny.

Christ: scary ignorance out there on the web. I have never googled this stuff before (never having had a need to make dynamite).

    "Organic"
    "No chemicals"
    "Silicone"
    etc

    How dumb can humans get...

I'm therefore somewhat sceptical of the other claims like "safe" or "brought my 135 year old granny back from the dead"

I take it twice a day. I use food grade Diatomaceous Earth. One tablespoon in water twice a day. I have more energy now than I have had in 30 yrs. No side effects. I order it online from EarthWorks.com, as do many of my friends and family who report wonderful things to me.

I've heard cocaine can make you really energetic too and it comes from a completely natural source. Maybe they just need to dilute it down to homeopathic levels.

ETA: Maybe you just had worms. It is used as a de-wormer and having worms can make you less energetic. And back up your digestive track. The breathing improvement may just be a coincidence unless there is some kind of worm that can get into your lungs as well.

Torn tendons and ligaments take a long time to heal. It was a matter of time that they healed.

As a medical professional, can you detail how inert and indigestible silica is affecting ligaments and the respiratory system.

I'd also like an explanation as to how silicates (the most common of the minerals on Earth) and iron (already present in our bodies and obtained through a normal diet) could possibly have "miracle" side effects.

You do realize you're basically just eating sand...I mean, if you ate the sand on an ocean beach, at least you would get a little sodium and calcium as well...

You only absorb trace amounts of silica. The diatoms are the main reason for the improvements in health. They look like wheat cheks under a microscope. They trap parasites within their structures and are eliminated via bowel movements. As you detox, you begin to regain energy and good health. It is recommended by Naturopathic Doctors as a Detox Treatment. It is given to cattle to make them healthy and parasite free. From what I hear, they are giving it to pets, as well. Why not us? People all over the world are taking it and giving good reports. If you are already healthy, there is no need to take it. DE is also a good source of minerals. Don't let ignorant people deter you from trying it.

    Source please.

They trap parasites within their structures
    Source please.

It is recommended by Naturopathic Doctors
Oh that's all right then. It's recommended by complete cranks.

It is given to cattle to make them healthy and parasite free.
Nonsense. Source please for this claim. It's a dewormer, granted, but what evidence do you have for any further effects?

People all over the world are taking it and giving good reports.
Yeah, because anecdotes are ALWAYS reliable scientific evidence aren't they?

DE is also a good source of minerals.
Source please. DE is a negligible source of minerals.

Don't let ignorant people deter you from trying it.

That is "trace" in the same sense as the amount of "medicine" in homeopathic [s]remedies[/] con-tricks.

DE is also a good source of minerals.
Only if it's impure. How do your square that with "food grade".

They trap parasites within their structures and are eliminated via bowel movements.
As far as I can tell, there is little evidence that it is effective for that purpose.

Bowel parasites caused your "crippled arm"? Did you have a medical diagnosis for that?

It is recommended by Naturopathic Doctors
Not by anyone with any medical training then?

Don't let ignorant people deter you from trying it.
Isn't that the wrong way round. Don't let the ignorant persuade you to eat soil would be better advice.

The problem is the effects you are describing are not consistent with the physical and chemical properties of the DE. Diatomaceous earth is strictly silica, an should not at any point have other minerals present. Also they don't really look like wheat checks in the sense you are meaning (holey exterior and hollow interior) rather they look like this
    diatom_earth2.jpg
There is no cavity large enough to remove any sort of parasite. Also what specific parasite are you suggesting would be removed?

You have still not answered my original request though:

I will also note that Shelia is making a very similar set of claims as "Salmon" did about 5 months ago in December Diatomaceous earth, food grade, is this really so good , or dangerous ?

I'm in the wrong line of work. If someone can actually SELL people the most common minerals on the planet, get the to EAT them, then claim miracle cures for ailments that heal naturally over time, I could make a small fortune by digging up rocks in my back yard and grinding them up.

EDIT: And if diatoms are so healthy, go lick a reflective street sign or eat your toothpaste. Stop trying to spread the crazy here.

If Sheila feels better after using diatomaceous earth, could it perhaps be a case of the placebo effect?

It depends. She hasn't told us over what period of time she ate the sand.

If she tore a ligament and then ate sand for 6 months; if she then felt better after the 6 months, I would not assign any credit to the placebo effect.

I would assign the placebo effect to pretty much anything over the healing properties of sand.

Swimming pool filters typically use either D.E. or sand, as the filtering medium. D.E. is obviously the more expensive, but is more effective in two ways: it tends to remain rather "fluffy" even with the weight of the water upon it within the filter enclosure, and is much more easily "back-washed" than sand.

I suppose, why not eat either of them? After all, silicon dioxide is found listed as an ingredient in many foodstuffs, which are powdered and tend to "cake" making pouring or sprinkling difficult; find sand as an added ingredient seems to make them more "pourable".

So, what the hell, why not take a chance? jocular

People who take massive quantities of vitamin supplements could certainly benefit from it. Otherwise, they're just wasting their money.

This is a condition called pica and is sometimes found in pregnant women. It can be associated with a mineral deficiency.

The same applies to drinking your own urine.
Gosh, I don't get the connection here.......sorry. We were concerned with D.E. and sand, but OK, whatever one fancies as helpful/worthwhile/healthful. jocular
Urine is a fluid that has been filtered by the body. You can drink it, though the first "batch" of the day from waking may have more minerals and carcass of blood cells. There some people that claim it has curative powers as well.
I think that was the tangential point he was trying to make.

I would not be surprised if you could buy someone else's urine, sold as a miracle cure at a very high price. Hmm, I could use some extra income.

I can sell pee and claim it's Jesus' pee. It's just been highly processed. I'll call it, Holy Water.... lol.

Pity the way a reader of these posts must feel, if he or she is tormented by the inability to pee normally! jocular

Well if they are bagging it makes the process much easier. And a wee bit less messy. Peeing in a cup, for females anyway, is a bit complicated.
