    Hello im wondering about something.
Lets say that you want to Power your Home on hydro electric.
and you dont live near a stream or running water.
Could you Have a pond with a pump pumping water up creating a waterfall. and under the waterfall you have a water wheel that is connected to an alternator charging up batteries in a battery room.
so in fact the electricity you store in the battery room can run the pump to make the electric and keep the batteries charged for what ever you need them for.
my question is could you in fact make closed circuit hydro electric with out being by running water with the idea i have proposed?

i am young and have the ambition to learn more. and want to move off grid

You'd put more energy into it than you got out of it.

The idea you have thought of is called a perpetual motion machine and is impossible. You are in good company because many inventors throughout history have tried the same thing. It would be a good idea to study these ideas and understand why they won't work.

Just to add a bit more detail ... the electricity you need to use to pump the water up is less than you would get back from the water wheel. This is just because nothing is 100% efficient.

However, if you had another source of power (solar cells, wind, etc) then you could use this to pump the water up as a way of storing the power until you need it. But, this is only worth doing for a very large scale. For a domestic situation you would be better of just using batteries to store the power until you need it.
