    Hi All,

This is my attempt to ask a very naive question. I am currently working on a project wherein which my focus would be to intimate evolutionary process in software.
I have read much about evolution, and I think I know the answer too. But just to make myself clear, Can anyone tell me, HOW DOES EVOLUTION WORKS? What is the driving force? What is the short-term/long-term goal of evolutionary process? Who benefits what? What makes one species more evolutionary stable than other????

Any answer, redirects, links or suggestion would taken as blessing

The specific wording and phrasing of your questions is misleading.
    Evolution is simply change.
It has no goal or benefits.

It's simply change, in which changes to the genetic structure of an organism will result in a trait that either compliments their adaptation to an environment, have no major effect on it, or cause hardship for the organism.
Most changes are not the kind that compliments the adaptation to the environment. Most are without major effect, as well. But some can really mess a critter up. Others, compliment the adaptation, which over a long time, will eventually be bred into the group more successfully than other traits, causing a species to have better adaptations to its environment.
When this gets very specialized, beware of changes to that environment, because a large environmental change equals probable extinction for a specialized organism.
The "Driving Force" is just about anything that can cause a change in genetic material.

You might browse the TalkOrigins website for extensive information on this topic.
