BAUT now Cosmoquest - heavy mod hammer over there, but kid friendly.
The following science forum is smaller, but has some outstanding posters and I'd recommend them any day.
Science Forums - Science for everyone
Not really a dedicated science forum...more of a skeptics board...but there's lots of science talk there...along with many other subjects. The James Randi Educational Foundation:
JREF Forum
First thing I saw over there was PMB.
I am on JREF but I haven't participated over there in years.
My last posts are bit embarrassing, not for their content, but for how heated up I got.
It's funny- I stick to one forum at a time, usually. although I balance two at the moment, one I barely post on. When the time is right, I may post a link to it in this thread.
I keep open tabs in the Firefox browser about 15 to 20 of my most current forum email notifications. Then if I want to do regular browsing I use IExplore 10. In any event the tabs for different forums have a different logo on them, which makes them easy to find when you are looking.

The Original Science Forums
That 1st one should be ".org", but the software on here auto changes it to .com, which seems odd.
Personally, I have no stake in the matter, but I wonder if it is proper to post links that might steer traffic away from the site. I don't know how Admin feels about it.
The one I have been participating on the most lately is a very broad based forum with a strong sense of community and support. The participants are generally respectful and little moderation has been needed. For that reason I enjoy it and there is a wide range of topics to engage in.
FRDB - Powered by vBulletin also known as FRDB
I have tried and failed in figuring out how .org is changed to .com.
@Harold14370, Let's do it for science![]()
Most of those forums are already well known by anyone on here.
I wondered the same thing for a moment. But in all fairness, I doubt it would have that effect.
It's the nature of a board that will appeal or be unappealing. I pointed out one board is a bit, in my opinion, heavy handed with the moderation. That's not appealing to me, but I know that it is to others. But usually, when you've established yourself in a corner of the web, you stay there til you get kicked out.
Actually, it has been my experience that posters that frequent more than one forum are GOOD for traffic as they tend to help move ideas around between forums and often invite their friends to participate as well.
It takes competition to keep these forums vital, in my opinion.
I like this forum a lot also and it compares well of those that I am on.![]()
Most people can find a science forum in a 2 seconds with a search engine, they can choose where and when they want to post, if you've got a good forum that people want to post on then you have nothing to fear from other forums.
